Hey there,
I have bought 2 sets of Bare Knuckles so far and been blown away always by them (one guitar sounded so good its been stolen by my mates touring band :(
Anywho, decided its high time my Tele got the treatment and wondered what peoples opinions were of the Tele pickups, I've always found these forums very helpful in helping me make my decisions. The body of the guitar is Ash and a few years ago I played a friends Ash body American Tele, stock Pups that was a joy to play. Im leaning towards the Boss or the Yardbird sets at the moment, I like the punch and mid of those. Would generally be playing rocky, poppy stuff with it - kinda looking to make it my work horse guitar for covers/functions band.
Peoples ideas or experiences would be very welcome.
Thanks!
Alex

blackguard flat 50 is my favorite. if you like bkp but have not tried their tele pickups you have a real treat in store
-
I've tried Piledriver, Boss and BG Flat 50. Pleased with all of them but the Blackguard Flat 50 is my favourite - just the right amount (for me) of classic tele sound and aggression.
-
Yep, the BG Flat '50 is a no-brainer choice for an awesome sound with versatility. The bridge position is a real "silly grin" pickup - loads of power for the rock stuff, but still sounds exactly as a Tele should when you want it to.
The Yardbirds are also an excellent set - they get a fatter and more balanced sound than a regular Tele pickup as a result of the AIV magnets. Perhaps not quite as rockin' as the other pickups mentioned, but very versatile indeed.

I wouldn't say the Boss or Yardbirds are a bad choise but damn I do love my BG50.

Can't comment on the other sets, but BGF50s are indeed just great IMHO - but take care, the BG sets have changed recently and the BGF50s set we're all talking about is - AFAICT (iow: check this with Tim) - now BGF50s bridge and BG52 neck. Wonderful neck if you like a strattier tone from your Tele neck.
Also do yourself a favour and go for a 4-way switch too - this should be the standard Tele wiring.

Nah, the BG50 and 52 are still separate sets :)

BG50's. You can play nearly everything with them.

Are u sure ? I guess the bg50 has a new neck pickup and the old straty like neck pickup is in the bg52 set...
Any bare knuckle guy can give us a certain answer ??
Im also waiting a full review for the bg52 set and maby a sound clip :(

The BG '50 set is the same as it always has been - wound to 6.8kΩ with 43AWG plain enamel. Yes the '52 has the stratty neck pickup with the 5kΩ 42AWG wind (also plain enamel)
I did all of the clips for the new website, which is going live next week. Since the clips were done under controlled circumstances in the same guitar, I think you will find them a valuable resource to make your decision easier.

Let it be 2011 fast!

According to Tim, the BG50s neck used to be 42AWG based on a '52 spec :

And mine (BGF50s) indeed reads 5Kohms DC resistance and has this famous stratty tone we (BGF50s users) all seem to love. So my understanding is that what used to be the BGF50s neck until last october (when the 52 set was released) is now the 52 set neck.
FWIW we've been wondering about this (http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=22593.msg300861#msg300861 (http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=22593.msg300861#msg300861)) but are still waiting for a definitive answer ;)

In that case, I'm wrong, apologies! :)

Well, I actually don't know whether you're right or wrong, and I'd really like to know for sure (Tim, if you read this... ;))

Well, it would make sense - I believe there used to just be two Blackguard sets, so perhaps it was when Tim expanded it to four that he separated the '50 and '52 sets and gave them their historically accurate matching pairs.
FWIW, I realised I misread your post from before: I understood you to mean that recently Tim had started pairing the Flat '50 bridge with the '52 neck instead of its matching pickup. Now I know you meant the opposite it all makes a lot more sense!

Maybe Tim can put an the end to our confusion about the neckpickup.
