Because I have a 6 berth guitar rack and following a couple of sales only 5 guitars I am looking for a new recruit to join the guitarsenalTM at home. I've always been very Fender centric and though I've owned Les Pauls and a Flying V over the years they came and went.
But I do want to try something different, and I reckon I'd like something more trad rock 'n' roll or rockabilly as the new kid. Over the last couple of days I've played a 1954 Gretsch Duo Jet, a modern Power Jet and a Duesenberg Starplayer TV. Of that bunch the clear winner is the Power Jet: the vintage Gretsch had a neck I didn't care for and I was dubious about the neck joint on it. The Doozy is clearly a well made instrument but the trem's not as nice as a Bigsby and I didn't much care for the sounds, it just lacked magic for me. The Power Jet is very cool but is also very £1800 in the place I tried it.
Does anyone have any recommendations for anything else I should think about trying for something a bit different but has a 50s or 60s vibe to it? I think my days of Super Strats are finally over. ;)

I've never tried any Eastwood (http://www.eastwoodguitars.com/) guitars bit do like the look of them, they certainly look out of the ordinary. Also the Danelectros that I have are fun and cheap.
Otherwise you can't get much more rockabilly than those big hollowbody Gretsch guitars.
