Title: NGD. Yes, another one.
Post by: GuiTony on December 31, 2010, 04:15:37 PM
I've not been around here much this year - I've been working way too long hours to spend much time doing anything else.  But as I've been working, I've managed to tuck away enough spare ££s to spoil myself just a little.

Mr Courier dropped (not literally) this off earlier today.  I've been loving it ever since, but now you get to share some of the pleasure.

This is - quite simply - the best guitar I have.

And if you've seen my other post today, you'll guess that I have a few guitars which put up a fair bit of competition.  But this one beats them all.  It has all the sounds that I need, feels just perfect in my hands, and has a top that I can't photograph properly ... but it's a deep 3D.

Thanks all.

I just sat and played it through most of last night, and totally love it.

The downside is that it's going to make a number of my other guitars redundant as I can't see me playing much else.

Very nice!  Love the Modern Eagle vibe!

VEry nice indeed - IIRC that finish looks pretty much the same as Dave's Modern Eagle.

If that's the guitar that I remember seeing here ... then you'd be right ... that "washed denim" effect was what I was after on this one.

And I got it   :)

Must admit I don't know the name.... is it a custom build?

I'd not heard of them either Philly. I'd heard of guitar building courses that are 'Bailey', perhaps this is the same guy?

I think it is Ian, yes.

Yes ...

... Mark Bailey makes guitars as well as running the courses.

Not surprisingly, his guitars are pretty damn good.  He had something very similar to this one lying around the workshop - :o - when I did his course the first time a good few years back.  I remembered it as being one of the nicest guitars to play that I'd ever played.  Just felt completely "right".  I had the chance, just before Christmas, to get him to build me something, so I asked him to recreate that original guitar.  Which he's done ... it's a seriously good instrument, and easily as good as that original one that I remembered.

He doesn't really advertise his custom build work.  He certainly doesn't have the same profile in the magazines (getting reviews, buying ad space - not that I'd suggest those two were linked  ) as some other small builders, but his work is easily up there with the best.
