Title: Strat users - do I need a baseplate if..

I already have the 2nd tone control wired to the bridge or will it just be redundant?

I would say that the tone control and baseplate are independent; go for a baseplate for a slightly fuller sounding bridge irrespective of tone control layout.

I have baseplate and tone control on bridge.

Also when I wired mine up I did not wire the 2nd tone to the mid pickup to give more clarity to neck+mid as only one tone pot in circuit at any one time and gives more flexible switching options IMO. Also makes the mid pup a great cutting lead tone in it's own right as no tone in circuit for pos 3 increases clarity.

Thanks. But it just occured to me now that I will try first the '63 bridge pickup in its natural state before adding something to it so I already made the order to the dealer without the baseplate. I realized since it already has enough bass as per specs, I'll pass on the baseplate first since it's easily obtainable as I'm friends with the dealer and a relatively easy mod anyway.
