Title: Soundcard settings
Post by: _tom_ on December 29, 2005, 04:32:16 PM
I decided I want to do some more recordings. However my soundcard isnt doing what I want it to! It records fine, but I cant hear myself through the speakers, like the mic socket's output is muted or something. Anyone had a similar problem to this? If so how did you solve it? It looks as though the built in soundcard is called a "Sigmatel C-Major".

I was thinking about upgrading the soundcard sometime if possible, but as its a laptop there are no PCI slots except for the "card" type slot on the side. Is it possible to buy a kind of "convertor" that can slot into the pins of a regular size PCI card which can then slot into the "card" type slot of the laptop?

I'm also having troubles with Audacity. It wont record my stuff in time! When I play it back it sounds horrible even though I know it was fine when I was playing it!

Cheers for any help

I've got a cheap Creative external soundcard which has proper sized jacks etc, however I'd look at getting a better external USB card if I were you like this one:

That looks good Johnny but how much is that gonna set me back, just for basic recordings it looks very expensive!

Is it the soundcards fault that audacity will not record in time or do I need to change some settings in audacity? All tracks record at the same rate..

To be honest I've never tried it for recording. The only reason I bought it was because my work soundcard wasn't very good and I didn't have a long enough cord on my headphones.
