Could this be made. I listened to the Pig90 today and was TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY!
This pickup is voiced perfectly for my liking. I've never heard a clip that good before.
Thing is that i hate the normal alnico warpig because it has no spank at all.
The ceramic is close, but it has too much bottom end for my liking still, and not enough spank yet :P
The thing is. Could it be possible to make a Humbucker sized Ceramic Pig90 for my v?
In my mind right now this would be more than awesome! That voicing has taken me by storm
-
Yep, that can be done, and it would be an absolutely brutal pickup!
-
What was your experience with it?
Do you sometimes play technical death stuff like hate eternal/suffocation etc. Is there enough definition and "oomph" in the palm mutes to drive that kinda stuff?
-
I haven't experienced a ceramic version, nor humbucker-sized, but the latter shouldn't make much noticeable difference.
The AV 'Pig was absolutely massive - "throaty" is the word that comes to mind. You do get a nice amount of low end detail with a single coil, but the ceramic magnet would definitely be a good call if you're playing at very fast tempos.
I do play DM from time to time, but I can't remember if I did so when we did the clips. The 'Pig 90 can certainly cover the same ground as the Warpig though, so if you want that level of saturation and aggression but with some P90 midrange character then it seems like it'd be perfect for you.
-
That is exactly what i want. I always liked the spank from single coil humbuckers. But they always lacked the gain and bottom end from humbuckers.
I wrote a mail to bkp about having this pickup made. Now i just cross my fingers :D
Wish me luck.
And thank you Nolly. you're amazing as always.
-
No worries, good luck!
-
Its being made :)
Im gonna name it; Para Bellum. It means to prepare for war :)
-
Success! Let us know how it works out for you :)

Headlines the day after his tech (ie. me) is forced at gunpoint to mount it:
SCANDINAVIA EXPLODES, AUTHORITIES BAFFLED
-
Maybe i should have it installed in north korea instead xD
-
Ooh, sounds interesting.
Will see how this turns out!
-
I was just thinking the other day that a ceramic Pig90 might be great (a long way from my next BKPs, having just bought my Miracle Men, but thinking P90s might be in order some time). Keep us posted.
-
Its in denmark now :D Cant wait until it reaches my doorstep :D
its going to be installed in my friends SG1 first, since the last parts for my V havent arrived yet.
CLIPS WILL BE RECORDED

Don't get your hopes up. The first clips will be recorded by me, so expect it to sound like arse no matter how good the pickup is.
-
Ok, the clip is DONE!
Sounds cr@p, and I played like it too because I had shiteloads of trouble getting this cr@p soundcard to work so I'm tired and I shouldve been asleep hours and $% tomorrow is going to hell at work and i'm probably gonna oversleep since I am so bloody tired and can only get like four hours before I have to get up for work but I $%ING FINISHED THE CLIP LIKE I PROMISED!
I've done a squillion takes I wasn't happy with, and it got progressively worse since I got more and more tired. However, I ended up getting a take I can *sort of* live with. Incidentally, taking my shirt off helped a lot with the playing.
Not surprisingly, the pickup is indeed a vicious little bugger and I hope this clip carries it across well enough:

Oh yeah, and pics are coming up tomorrow.

It actually sounds real good man. The Pig-90 always interested me as well. I know how it is mixing songs late in the night. It's midnight and you say, "Lemme try one more thing." BOOM! It's 6 am and you feel like $hit. I think you should write a song about how work went the morning after. Brutal.
-
Thanks dude :)
The mixing itself took all of 5 minutes, so that wasn't the issue. I just had some technical problems getting the actual recording to $%ing work in the first place :( After that, I was already tired and my playing was less than impressive, so it took a while to get a take that was sort of acceptable. Still not happy with the playing at all, but screw it, that'll do for now.
But I must say again: Rocking shirtless improved my playing a whole bunch! Thankfully the pics coming up now do not feature that.

Sounds massive, nice.
-
As cool as I think the name "Para Bellum" is, I vote for this to be renamed "Punt Cuncher".
-
Okay, so I had it in the jam room yesterday. Played it over a Peavey 6505 and HOLY shite is this thing noisy. Luckily my band plays some kind of chaotic post-hardcore mixed with a whole buttload of black metal dissonance and other yucky stuff in it, so it's not like the crazy feedback was out of place or anything.
Apart from that, it sounded absolutely perfect. Extremely harsh, heavy, and most of all ANGRY. It was absolutely perfect for what I need, and I'm definitely ordering one for myself, come payday.
-
this is awesome! i mean, the clip sounds really terrific!
i'm about to buy a set of HSP90 for a Les Paul Studio, i have some doubt about the neck unit but i'm doing this exactly to have a Pig90 in bridge position...
BUT
now i'm really curious about this "new" beast... ceramic or A5? i really love C-pigs, by the way... doubts... doubts... :)
-
D heim. Im going to give it a spin myself on monday. Ill come back with my professional opinion on it. After all, its made after my mad ideas. Now Christian wants one too for himself :D
-
wow, i know this is old, but any chance you have more audio clips of this pickup? it sounds like it would be amazing as I love the ceramic warpig, but want a P-90 for something a bit different
-
lol @ 22,000 ohm ceramic P-90 :o :D
Clips!
-
Well. I think loomer is going to buy it next month, i dont have a guitar for it at the moment, since i swapped it for a painkiller i my v :)
-
well i just emailed tim about ordering one. I think my mock is getting 1 one these, a stockholm and an alnico for the neck
-
sounds nice! good luck buddy. Bare in mind that the picking attack on the cpig90 is so overwhelming that you need to ajust your settings to even hear the notes. Theres so much attack there it kicks the amp in the butt

would you recommend an alnico pig90?
-
havent tried it. but if you wanna play grind or doom, then the cpig90 is perfect for that
-
I wasn't around when this thread was made. I'm glad it got bumped.
Think you could re-upload your YouTube clip, Mad?
-
Sorry. its gone :(
