Hey guys.
I'm currently in the studio with my band recording 5 songs to go on an EP or album (depends on how many other recordings we can rustle up).
I've been taking photos of practically everything, so I thought I'd post some on here incase anyone was interested :)

The singer/Guitarist used my Fender Strat with Bareknuckle Crawler/Irish Tour/Irish Tour pickups, my Orange AD30 head and the MESA 4x12 cab for all his guitar parts.
I used my Strat for 3 songs, and my Gibson LP Standard with Seth Lovers for 2 songs. All my clean guitar parts were recorded with the Marshall 50w Plexi (apparently a 'rare US model') and Mesa 4x12.
My Overdriven parts were recorded with the Plexi but this time it was cranked upto 7 and put through a Weber Mass to bring the volume down to a none deathly level :)
For the 1 song where I needed slightly more gain than I could get from the Plexi, I used my JCM800 2210 100w head and the Mesa cab.
I also used a Fulltone Fulldrive 2 to give the Plexi a kick up the arse for the solo on 1 of the songs.
All guitar parts were recorded with a Blue Baby Bottle mic and a Shure SM57 up close to the speaker.
If anyone wants to hear any of my bands music, then feel free to check out www.forthisdaymusic.com
As soon as I've mixed the newly recorded songs, they'll replace those currently on the website.
Sorry for the long post, and thanks for reading :)

Hell yeah Brow Bro!!! sounds like everything ran smoothly! nerve-racking? Should have some nice tone's recorded there. also - WHY is there so many knobs on that thing (dunno what it is - a mixer? LOL. sorry...) what can they possibly all do? I'm eager to hear the fruits of your labour!
-
that looks goooooooooood man.some pretty nice kit ur usin. i hope you enjoy it.
you gotta make the most of it coz in my experience it doesnt come cheap.
i hope its a happy new year for your band.play away!!!

That must have been fun. Recording in a studio with a band is great- especially if you can play as a band to get the backing track down with someone else having the "twiddle the knobs".A good array of amps to play with too. Looks like a bit of snow on the trees there.

Thanx for the comments guys :)

Nah, I don't find it nerve-racking at all :) I work in the studio myself, so I know what to do and what to expect :)
We were having some problems on the 1st day with my amps, but it turns out that it's bad power in the amp booth. So for recording my parts I moved the amp out into the drum room and had no problems.
The desk does look quite 'scary', but think of it this way, it's just 1 lot of controls thats copied a further 39 times. So if you learn 1 strip of controls, you've learnt all 40 of them :)
The red faders are used to control the mix you hear when you listen back to the recording to check for errors or when overdubbing parts etc

I've bought 2 of the amps in myself, and the MESA and other Marshall belong to my friends at the studio. As does the Mesa 4x12 cab.
Because I work at the studio, I get all my recording time free of charge. So I might as well take my time and get it done to the best of my ability :)

I'm recording and engineering the session myself, so I recorded the singer/guitarist and drummer 1st and then I played my parts over the top.
It's been snowing for the last 4 days or so, and it appears to have no sign of ending either :(
Thanx again for all the nice comments :)

Mixing desks aren't half as complicated as they look. Getting the right sound out of them is the tricky part.
Cool amps!

I'll be sure to post some of the songs up when I've mixed them.

The Orange and the JCM800 are my own amps, and I've used the other Marshall and MESA many times while engineering other peoples sessions. So I pretty much knew what to expect from them :)
That Plexi is the nicest sounding clean amp I've ever heard :)

I'll look forward to hearing the finished tracks - I'm always on the lookout for good studios. There are some decent ones in Newcastle but none that have knocked me out yet with any recordings I've heard.

SWEET! that first pic is really nice, very professional looking! allow me to offer my "mad props" at this stage

Thanx for the posts guys :)
Today is hopefully the last day of recording, with just some backing vocals and a few keyboards left to go.
It's going to be a real nightmare to mix, but hopefully I'm upto the challenge  :D

a mate of mine is a producer as well. his thing is hip-hop but he's got a good knowledge of music theory (better than my old guitar teacher). i'm planning on taking my stuff for a mess around in his studio. his mixing desk etc is rather old but it is his own.

Love to hear it Brow!

Thanx for the new comments Tewboss and HJM :)
The recording got finished yesterday, so all's left for me to do is get some time in the studio to mix it :)
I'm starting mixing it on Tuesday, and then maybe a few more evenings or days after and it should hopefully be finished :)

are you going to post any clips on here? or is it purely for your EP?

I'll be putting some up on our website, so I'll more than likely just link anyone that wants to hear the songs over to our site :)
It saves bandwidth on this site for the good clips  :D

Hi Craig, looks like you are having fun. I got my Black Dog pickups this trip so I will be fitting them when I get back to the States this weekend. Happy New Year. Phil

Hey Phil, Happy New Year mate! :)
I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the Black Dogs.
Although they're alot lower DC than the Crawler that I have in my Strat, I find the Black Dogs to be alot more aggressive sounding than the Crawler.
I'm interested to hear your thoughts :)
