Title: p90 types
Post by: telemonster on December 30, 2005, 11:13:51 AM
anyone got any experience of the p90 types? i've got a homemade special (swamp ash tele shape body, graphite neck-fender scale) with a zebra coil stormy monday at the bridge, and was toying with the idea of a p90 type at the neck. don't think i've ever played anything with p90's...
i haven't looked through the posts to find out...i'm a bit lazy!

A P90 in the neck is great if you think a full sized humbucker is a bit too much and a normal single coil too weak or thin. My neck MQ has an AIV magnet, great for bluesy and jazzy stuff. It's a clear, transparent but fat tone.

To match with the bridge stormy monday, I think you will need Tim to wind you a lower output P-90.  I have neck P-90's with the Crawler and with a Warpig bridge and know that they can keep up with them with no problems!

The sound of a neck P-90 is really sweet, it sits there between a humbucker and a Fender single coil. It has a fatter tone, even though it is only a single coil.
