Hi guys,
Since getting my second B2 I have been asked several times how the sound differs between the two. Here's a very quick clean and dirty clip of each that I did this morning:
Quilted B2 (the older of the two):
Clean (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/790683/Blackmachine%20Comparisons/Quilt%20B2%20clean.mp3)
Mid-gain (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/790683/Blackmachine%20Comparisons/Quilt%20B2%20mid-gain.mp3)
Dirty (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/790683/Blackmachine%20Comparisons/Quilt%20B2%20dirty.mp3)
Full mix (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/790683/Blackmachine%20Comparisons/Quilt%20B2%20full%20mix.mp3)
Burl B2:

Mid-gain (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/790683/Blackmachine%20Comparisons/Burl%20B2%20mid-gain.mp3)
Dirty (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/790683/Blackmachine%20Comparisons/Burl%20B2%20dirty.mp3)

Some people were surprised at my choice to put Mules in the new Burl-topped B2, hopefully the dirty clip will prove that they lack nothing when it comes to high-gain.
The older B2 has a Rebel Yell bridge, VHII neck.
The dirty clip is the intro riff to Nevermore's The Psalm of Lydia
It's worth noting both guitars have brand new sets of the same brand/gauge strings and were played in quick succession with identical EQ. I also used the same pick.

I have to say I prefer the sound of the mules.
-
Your rebel Yells also have double screw coils - adds a bit of low mids and lessens top a bit in my experience
Both sounded great - Proves how uber versatile the Mules are

Lovely! I love the Mule tone on all clips!! :D It's a AIV or AV?
-
They're AIV, and the neck is unpotted :)
-
Sweet!
I soooo wanted that Doug did one Blackmachine thick as a LP  :P
May be never build, thought
-
Yeah, Mules win for me. That's good stuff and beautiful guitars, sir! Was this done with an amplifier or a simulator of some type?
-
Thanks! It's done with an Axe-FX Ultra :)
-
Yeah I think I actually prefer the Burl's tone, it seems to have a more throaty midrange going on.
Lovely stuff, mate!
-
A bit surprised by the Mules. I knew they were versitile, but I never thought they would be good for this kind of modern metal. Another to the list of BKPs I want, but don't have the guitars or money for :(

Here's some mid-gain rock riffing with each:
Quilt B2 mid-gain (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/790683/Blackmachine%20Comparisons/Quilt%20B2%20mid-gain.mp3)
Burl B2 mid-gain (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/790683/Blackmachine%20Comparisons/Burl%20B2%20mid-gain.mp3)
I'll do some neck pickup comparisons over the weekend.

I LOVE THE MULES!
-
Oh neck pickups... YES PLEASE! :D
-
How's Alnico 4 compared to alnico 5? :D
-
Great tones. Those Mules are fantastic.
-
I've been deaf for a week so didn't wanna post as all I could hear low mids but now I can hear again!!! :D
I can hear why everyone likes the mules, personally I prefer the quilted B2 purely because the palm mutes have a bit more chunk in the mix
-
Please notify me when you wanna sell one of those guitars :)
-
I liked the quilted clips better. Cleans were a bit crisper and dirty was a bit crisper and fuller. It was really close though, and I doubt I would be able to tell the difference between the full mix clips if I hadn't been listening for it.
I wonder what the difference between AV mules and the RY/VHII would be. I feel like the differences I was describing above were the same as the differences between AV and AIV magnets.
Nice playing Nolly.
EDIT: After listening again I have to add that i liked the Mule a fair bit better on the mid-gain clip compared to the RY. The same thing that made me like the RY on clean and dirty (brighter, more thump, crisper) made me dislike it on mid gain because it didnt sound as warm.

Indeed very impressive! Those mules really kick some ass.
