Title: I need help...
Post by: schmendict on December 30, 2005, 08:35:46 PM
Well, actually, i need £50 more than help, but i was wondering whether anyone has any ideas to make money that a 14 year old could achieve. The money will go towards my first Warpig, so its kinda deperate  .
Im looking into jobs, but i dont want to earn from my parents. I dont have any old unwanted gear except for a couple of effects boxes (Zoom 505 Mk II, Daphon Overdrive and a Danelectro Dist./Mini amp). Im condisdering the possibility of selling these in a "bulk pack" if you will, but im not in favour of conning people out of money, the pedals, though new, shouldnt fetch much.
I really want my first 'pig, so i need help!

Thanks in advance,
Alex.

I understand the parent thing, but ever think of neighbors?

Washing cars
Sweeping leaves/gardening
Going to store for people.

Etc. I used to do a paper round at your age but also put an ad in the local shop and asked around for odd jobs etc.
Just be polite and have faith and you CAN make some good money (and friends) doing this kinda thing

Nick

I think you can probably do shopwork which would bring in more money than a paper-round (which I hated doing). I'm sure supermarkets would take you on - they never gave me a job at the time because I had long hair before it became acceptable.

Yeah, im trying to get my dad to get information at the local supermarket, but he still hasnt got around to it. Paper rounds are awful...just horrific...

you have no right to say that until you've been round with the paper bag in the freezing january rain!

lol, i have no suggestions for ya, few places will employ you under 16 for shop work, you might find an unscrupulous newsagent if you look hard enough. i've done the paper round myself, best part of a year saved up to get an avalon acoustic... ahh but it was worth it.

also since you're too young for national minimum wage you can get shafted for pay as well.... so watch out...

The freebie newspapers are a pain in the butt as they have too many leaflets included in there (i.e. the Herald & Post in our area Alex & Tom). Better to deliver papers people actually want as you may get tips at christmas.

Newsagent work is better when its cold outside mind.

I did the freebie newspapers for a couple of years. The leaflets thing can be an issue sometimes, but we got paid extra for getting leaflets, and the size of the paper. It was ok I guess, it was better when I would get home from school and my mum had sorted the leaflets for me! The main advantage is that it was only 1 night a week, but then it was Wednesday - Champions League Night...
If you're 16 you might be able to get a job as a glass collector in a bar (my mate did), or in a local takeaway (I did that)...

hah!  I bought my first decent fender strat (Jap re-issue 63) by working in a horribly sectarian brick factory for three months when I was 15. You youngsters have it so easy...
