Title: a miracle man enjoys a rookie's touch - all revealed inside!
Post by: hobleguitars on December 30, 2005, 09:48:26 PM
Hi, my name's Matt and I just turned 18. I bought a mule (neck) for my gibson lp a few months ago and got a mm for the bridge for Christmas, and thought I'd better honour the purchase and post a clip. This is me playing guitar and bass, with drums supplied by Sibelius 3, as I've lent my kit to a friend, and is a demo of my latest band - an exodus/megadeth/slayer-esque outing - missing lyrics and recording quality. Yeah, there's a hiss, as I forgot whether it was compressors or expanders that helped that.

Basically, it's my mahogany-bodied LP going straight into my trusty Marshall AVT50 and mic'd up by a Shure 58 (my instrument mics were elsewhere). No effects (except reverb), no EQing (on the guitars) and perhaps a bit too much distortion, and the drums sound sub-par, but it was fun, and I really like these pups. I'll give you a Mule clip or two in the future, as I play in a Stagger-pop band called the Ponies as well.

I started playing guitar last August, so bare with it.

EDIT: Oh yeah, it's quite quiet too - sorry about that.

Sounds like those AVT amps are actually good for metally tones then! Nice and tight. Great playing too!

well... itīs just the quality of the distortion...
pretty granulated, like a cheap pedal.. something like that .
but i like the ocmposition and the playing.
just the distortion needs a better tone
you didnīt notice that ?

For a guy whose been playing guitar for a year that was a really good clip.
Much better than i could have ever done after playing a year. Not everyone has the chance to record with the best amps/effects,but the main thing is he is happy with his tone.

I don't think my recording setup was ideal for getting the most out of the amp, and it isn't the best-suited amp for that kind of stuff, no, but I'm very happy with the MM and Mule. Me and a mate share one of the new AC30s for the cleaner stuff, and I'm looking for a new thrash amp for the future, as the AVT's been dropped on concrete by drummers, so it's nigh on had it. Any suggestions? So far I've got Randall and Peavey in the lineup.

Glad you enjoyed the clip and I'll see if I can post some more up soon.

Nothing wrong with that tone IMO. Sounded wicked. Lightning speed playing, very good.

Almost sounds like one of Ben's clips.

YEAH.. Now that you said IT(i didnīt know that about the 1 year of playing etc) I completely Agree with you and excuse myself for the comment..
even though.. i didnīt offended him OR ANYONE else..
i just pointing things that needs some fixing.. not Bashing anyone
if i wanna bash someone, iīll surely do.. of course, if this "someone " bashes me first, otherwise, i have no motive to give hard critics or bash someone.
Q:)

for 1 year of playing, heīs quite secure in his playing...
As i said, i liked the song and the playing, just the distortion eq tone is kinda grain, shrill.. but I CAN hear the MIRACLE MAN CARACTERISTICS on his clip.

I think I layered the guitar parts too thickly, and with too much gain it's muddied up the track a bit. It's easier to hear the MM come through on the solo breaks, IMO.

Lol - that's what I'll tell people - I'm a secure guitar player.

it's not his fault the tone isn't great (not that i'm saying it isn't, i mean to anyone who thinks it's not great), it's the marshall avt.

my marshall avt doesn't sound like that! sounds more "rocky" than metally, unles i hit the scoop switch, which has th unfortunate disadvantage of sounding like ass. (of course, i'm using more "rock orientated" pickups)

anyway, i'm really liking what i hear of the miracle man... nice job, great playing, for only playing since august?  :o  EDIT: oh, august about 16 months ago? still, very good playing!

man, i'm gassing over a pickup and don't have a guitar to put it in!

For all the recordings flaws, that pickup/amp combination sounds killer in person. It's good for cleans as well, a lot better than expected. And yes, the drummer did drop the amp so it sounds a bit funny.

Well done, like the track!

You need a gate for his (or noise reduction)!

I liked it too- if you are playing like that after being at it for such a short time, I'd like to hear you arfter two years- it'll be a treat methinks.
