Title: 2x NGD well kind of
Post by: Gizmo on January 16, 2011, 08:33:13 PM
Spent xmas with the parents. Dad was cleaning out the loft and brought down all my olds stuff to sort out. I had two guitars up there i havent seen for over 10 years.

This is my first guitar. 1993 fender squier silver series strat and an Ovation celebrity accoustic mid 90's. I'm trying to decide what to do with them atm.

Dont think they sell for very much so may keep the strat for sentimental reasons. It plays well and sounds more punchy then my american deluxe maple neck strat mainly because it is basswood which is also very light. However, it doesnt have the dynamic range and so am considering replacing the pickups and giving it some tlc.

I'm thinking of getting a whole aged pickguard assembly with one of the SSS sets from BKP's. Does anyone know if the pickguards would fit?  do i need to take measurements so they know the style? i think the screws are diff to the american strat albeit both 11 screw. maybe a 60's style to a 50's?

Also im tempted to refinish it. The guitar was never in a hardcase so has lots of little dings but the resin finish is just cracked a bit and not too worn. I would love a nitro finish on it.  is this finish going to be hard to strip? Anyone recommend a luthier in the south (london) who would be able to do a good respray or light relicing?

its got an old vibe to it as all the hardware has naturally aged and the neck has authentic finger wear on the first three frets lol where i was learning to play all my scales, grades etc that i did when i was a kid and not venturing up the neck.

its got no strings on as ive just been pearing under the pickguard

I think they fit, but ask the BKP-team. They will provide the answer.

The screw layout is the same as an early (1960-62) '60s Strat.  On a modern (post-1962!) scratchplate the screw between the neck and middle pickups is much closer to the middle pickup.

A pre-wired scratchplate will definitely fit the body dimensions, but I'm not sure if the screw holes will necessarily line up exactly.  I don't think the older Squiers precisely matched US Fender specs, although they'll be pretty close.
