Title: Anyone try an A5 Nailbomb in a Gibson SG?

Just wondered what your thoughts are on this pairing. Thanks.

Had  a friend who loved that combo in his sg. Depends on your sg sound, if its pretty heavy and fat sounding stay away from a5 pickups wiht medium hot output. Except you go for a warpig alike one. If its light and bright it could work.

Cold sweat set would work great as a good all rounder, can be pretty soft or mean on demand. A miracle man bridge could be a good pickup too, depending what you seek for tones.

Even if I'm known for being a nailbomb fanatic, I'd rather mix it with alder or ash bodied guitars and carved maple top ones than a full mahogany one.

Maybe try the Rebel Yell as I believe that was based on a Nailbomb originally but is tighter and brighter.

the holy diver was awful in my ex-gibson sg
I should have listened to Tim
I'm not sure if the nailbomb would be better

the usual good matches for sgs are:
- low output
- extreme output
- ceramics

the nailbomb is surely higher output than the holy diver, but I wouldn't classify it as 'extreme'
I don't think the A5 warpig has more actual output than the nailbomb, but it's noticeably more compressed

For me Sg's  go along with riff raff, p90s, warpigs and cold sweat. From vintage rock with good crispy sound to massive stoner or all rounder sounds, cant go wrong with one of those on a gibbo sg.  :P

I asked Tim about this a while back and he said a Nailbomb in an SG would just be very muddy & dark so to stick to high or low output and completely avoid the mid output pickups

that's how the diver sounded
although it sounded awesome in a very dark and bass heavy les paul, it was awful in the SG
the nailbomb has a brighter top, but darker mids

I'd stick to Riff Raffs or in the contemporary league Cold Sweats.

That is true i forgot that you had the nailbomb in the tokai SG.

It may be like my general experience with NB's though and theyre extremely picky just exactly what you put them in disregardless of woods/construction, they either like it or hate it.

Unfortunately ive never had a guitar they work in despite them being similar construction/woods to others that they work extremely well in
