Title: for those who tried both the aftermath and holy diver...
Post by: dani on January 19, 2011, 09:46:16 AM
can an eq pedal set to a mid hump pre-drive impart the sweetness of a holy diver to the clinical tone of an aftermath?

doesn't have to be exact but somewhere around the ballpark would suffice.

thanks as always,
dani

I haven't tried this specifically on the Aftermath, but having played around with my MXR 6-band Eq pedal on a few other guitars, I'd have to say unlikely.

Thinking about when I did this with PK & MM-equipped guitars, the extra mids did change the sound & drive the amp harder, but both guitars still sounded & responded like the ceramic magnet beasts they are :)

The Aftermath isn't clinical by any means. It's fast tracking but very dynamic for how powerful it is. Using a TS9, 808 or similar could get you started in that direction, but you'll never get the HD to sound exactly like the AM. I use a boost>gate chain with my Aftermath and I'm pretty sure I've gone off the charts with tightness.
