Title: What BKP for a metalcore/telecaster? Sample painkiller w/ PRS cu24 inside
Post by: Diurno on January 19, 2011, 01:36:10 PM
The guitar is this one:

and i want to swap the emg for a BKP in the bridge. I already have a painkiller in my prs cu24 and another painkiller in my ESP eclipse.

The tele is swamp body and all maple neck. What could fit for modern genres as metalcore/hardcore?
I play with a peavey 5150 with diezel and mesa oversized cab.

Putting my utter unbridled hatred for telecasters aside for a moment, if you're looking for an alternative to the painkiller for a bit of variety, try the aftermath. It's especially brutal in my 5150-II.

The Painkiller might be on the bright side for the timbers. Maybe Aftermath or C-Pig are a better choiche.

the same here...new telecaster with swamp ash and allmaple neck...searching for a bridge humbucker.. (playing with mesa dual and a boosted vintage carlsbro tc60, orange cabs) ...so im not searching for only true metal pickups..
what about the holydiver? or crawler-abraxas? ...thank you

I'd say a C-Pig for this. If you need more punch, an Aftermath. Just remember that wiring one EMG and one passive is really sketchy. You'll probably need to swap the neck-pickup as well.

I would do this anyway for a better balance.

Yes, i'll swap also the neck emg for sure. But i don't use so much the neck position, so i'll put there some seymour or dimarzio i think.

Whenever people say they don't use the neck position, I get sad.  :(

I joke; If you insist. There are some really great neck pickups Bareknuckle make though.

Yep, i used to use it often, but now our song are without solos or clean parts, we play hardcore (SONGS WITH PRSCU24 W/ PAINKILLER HERE http://www.myspace.com/thewordsineversaid ) and i use only the bridge pickup!
At home, when i play by myself, i use it for bluesing or rockin...but only at home!  :(

Yeah, I totally know where you're coming from. I've been using my Warpig-neck for some jazzy stuff and I think I'm finally sneaking some it into my band's writing. ;) Especially in a two guitar Hardcore/Metal band it's hard to find an application for the neck-pickup where the other guy doesn't drown you out entirely. I'm starting to appreciate how powerful the WP neck is though, I don't think I could get away with using it as much if it were a ColdSweat or Nailbomb.
