First excuse me for my english, i'm french...
I have an old Esp Mirage custom (http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb313/Ademonam/ESP%20Mirage%20Custom%20Shop%201985/DSCF1251.jpg) in alder, and I would like to change the mics. I'm an EMG guy, that I do like, but I want to try something else on this one...My kind of playing (I don't know if it's correct to say that) is like one-way mirror, mnemic, soilwork... I have a nu-metal approach. And I do like djent bands like monuments and periphery, which both use BKP... But I don't play djent (maybe in the future)
What mic would you recommend me?

I assume that by 'mic' you mean pickup, or what we'd refer to as a 'pup'. Anyway, if you like the EMG tightness I think you'd love the Aftermath. It's very like an EMG but with soul. I remember someone describing it on here as an EMG killer as it had all of the advantages of an EMG with none of the limitations. It's super tight like an EMG but whereas I find an EMG lifeless and sterile (Sorry, I'm really not a fan of EMG), the Aftermath retains a surprising amount of organic tone.

Aftermath comes to mind, but would count Miracle Man in too.
-
I think the Aftermath will give you more freedom and versatility in this case. It is very tight and powerful (but not compressed), because of the magnets it uses. It can be thick sounding depending on your amp-settings, which is good for Soilwork, but also has good tones with lower gain. Misha from Periphery uses the Aftermath in some of his guitars now.

mic = micro = microphone magnétique = magnetic pickup in french

Lots of EMG love there that's for sure but it's not my thing. When I play things like the EMG81/85 it always seems to me like going from a good valve amp to a digital modeling amp. Besides which, I can't take anyone seriously who finds Bare Knuckle pickups muddy, though I'll concede they are bloody expensive. To each their own I suppose.

Thanks everybody! Yes I wanted to say pickup, but I was tired when I wrote that... and in french, as Eric said, we talk about "microphone" sorry
So I have to try the aftermath...
-
I'd say Aftermath for the tightness if you like EMG. It's the obvious choice for you.

It's pretty obvious that OP in the link is way more used to EQing their EMG. It sounded like they were trying to make the Aftermath sound like the EMG. Just saying, I've run Blackjack head to head with an ATX and gotten a far different comparison.

Hey! Welcome to the Forum. Nothing to be sorry for, reading your original post is obvious to anyone with common sense you are asking for opinions concerning bare knuckle pickups for your electric guitar. Anyone who would question or doubt this after reading your post, is being pompous IMO.
Your ability to communicate in English is great, hope the Aftermath mic gives you what you want. :)

Ps- Eric's post rocked, I loved it, he's quite the unique character, never boring.

Thank you WhiteRam :D
Everybody seems to think the aftermath is the obvious choice for me... now I have to choose the cover. I don't know what could fit the best my kitsch snakeskin guitar

Another question : I don't know if I need long leg or short leg... don't know what it is!
edit : well... I didn't see that http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/downloads/dimensions/humbuckers/6_string_wide_spacing.pdf ... So I will take a pickup with short leg
-
One more thing : I would like to buy an open poled aftermath with the pole like these pickups
(http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/6551/dscf1706w.jpg)
or the first one on this picture (the second is different, I don't understand why...)
But there are pickups like that

that's weird, and I don't like it at all... It's not the same kind of pole???
How can I have what I would like???
-
Simply ask. That's the beauty of a small manufacturer like this; if they can't do it, there will be a very good reason for it.
-
Thank you!
I didn't understand, cause there wasn't so many options for the pole screws...
