Title: NGD (Not Safe For Roo) - NOW WITH BETTER PHOTOS

So I've been looking for the one special guitar to fill the last space on my guitar rack and today I found it.  I'd narrowed the selection down to a Gretsch Duo Jet, a Duesenberg Starplayer TV or a really good Tele.  Having tried vintage and new Gretsches I realised that much as I love the looks and the sound they weren't for me.  I took a day trip just after Christmas to try out a Doozy and really didn't like it at all.  It seemed very lifeless to me but that was perhaps that one example - I know other people rave about them.

Eventually I realised that there was no getting away from it, I am a Fender person and the thing I should get was a solid keeper Tele to grow old with.  I've tried, over the last few weeks, Custom Shop Fenders, Bajas, Road Worns, Nash and McGuires and today I found the one

It's a brand new Philippe Dubreuille '50s style Tele with a lot of relic work.  The moment I picked it up I knew it was right.  It's extremely light weight (7.25 lbs) and incredibly resonant. The neck is a pleasantly chunky C shape without feeling like a baseball bat.   The body looks like two pieces of ash.  The whole thing is just extraordinarily comfortable to hold and play.  Plugged into the Cornell Romany in the shop it has lots of spank and just oozes classic Tele tone.  It's really special and was worth the wait/extensive search.  I am a very happy punter indeed.

Very nice!  :D

Is that from Vintage & Rare?  They have (or had) another Philippe Dubreuille guitar I like the look of, an LP Jr copy.  Not cheap though!

It was from Vintage and Rare. Price wise it's a little pricier than the Nash and McGuires and a lot cheaper than the Fender Custom Shop. I think it's very good value for what it is.

Looks amazing-- that headstock checking really is incredible!! Looks much better than the Nash teles that i've played, and they looked pretty damn good!

I tried a Nash, also a Blackguard, at the same time as the Dubreuille and I didn't like it anywhere near as much as a guitar, though cosmetically it was very impressive.  It just wasn't as light or resonant and that came through in the tone plugged in.  The neck was also too baseball bat for my taste.  I wouldn't judge all Nash guitars on the basis of this one though as all Fender style guitars are so variable: I've played Squiers that were amazing and CS guitars that were rotten.  I think I just got lucky and the Dubreuille is a great guitar that also looks the part.

Wooo yeah - fine looking geetar there sir :D

Cheaper than the McGuires, eh? I looked at them ages ago and didn't really like... this one looks a lot nicer.

EDIT: Aha... misread you, NOT cheaper, but not much more neither :)

Couldn't see the LP Junior Philly mentioned on V&R (he musta bought it ) - but there's a nice looking 50s strat on their site at the moment.

A little more expensive than a Nash, same price as the last McGuire I tried and a lot cheaper than the Fender Custom Shop, even secondhand CS.  It's simply the nicest Tele I've ever played, I love everything about it.  So much of this comes down to luck of course: finding the one absolute belter in the shop that fits your needs and this is the only Dubreuille I've played so I can't vouch for any of his other guitars but this one is pure win.  I'm semi-curious to find out what pickups/electrics are in it but it's so perfect as it is I'm reluctant to take a screwdriver to any part of it for now.

'Fraid not!

Here's the Junior.  I think it must be sold, but I found an old link through Google:

That's one sexy Tele.

It's on my list to build one exactly like that (it's a very long list with no start date at the minute  :?) as that's my ideal one.

Well if the copy for the LP is accurate it might well answer my question about the origin of the pickups in my guitar then, i.e. he makes his own.  That's a lovely Junior too by the way and I don't think it was in the shop when I was in.  Sorry, Philly.

Sorry for the threadnomancy but I've just added a clip (http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=24779.0) in the Player's section. The guitar had BKP Flat 50/52s installed in it on Sunday and I'm loving them.

Dang nice relic work, my tele is getting on for 40 years old and it don't look that bad (meaning good)
