I havent had much experience with speakers other than V30's and G12H30's, but im curious to what you guys think sound best with your BKP's :D
-
well, its not sooo much how the speakers match my bk's...its how they jive with my amps ...and, of course, every other little part of the chain...!
My Mesa Boogie Marks have to feed EV m 12L speakers, either in 4x12 and/or Thiele cabs-unforgiving,efficient, headroom...very little coloration
...my Bray 50 watt needs greenbacks and /or celestion g12 65's...
I do favor hotter pups with my boogies....lower output with my Bray-for obvious reasons :D
speakers are a BIG part of the tone chain..I had no idea when I was a younger dude who was ONLY concerned with technique...of course, my first real amp was early 70's Marsh with early 70's greenbacks,so I did have tone and didn't even know/appreciate it
there is no one be all/end all speaker-gotta find the right combo-I own many others, but they all serve their "purpose"

Im interested to try out those speakers too... I heard Eminence makes a pretty decent clone, the Dela Pro 12A.

Celestion Alnico Golds - for me, they're the best of the best of the best. My speaker swapping days have ended.
-
Jensen Neo 15" - nice open back cab from those nice people at Zilla linked up to one of Martin's Roadstars - job done - even make me sound half decent
David 8)
-
I have two clear favorites.
Jensen C12N and Celestion G12H.
-
Electrovoice EVM12L - for me, they're the best of the best of the best. My speaker swapping days have ended.
-
I settled on english Celestion V30's. They suit me perfectly.
but im seriously considering to aquire myself a 2x15" vader bottom cab :)
-
I've been stuck on Celestion Sidewinders for over 20 years - never fail to please me
-
Are they being made anymore? i cant find them on their homepage
-
Sidewinder's aren't being made anymore. I have 6 12", 1 15" & 1 10" and like all of them. In speakers that are being made, I like the Weber Thames (Fane Clone), Weber Silver Bell, Eminence Wizard, Tone Tubby Hempcone Alnico and Tayden True Brit. I also like Goodman's speakers, but they aren't made anymore. If you can find McKenzie speakers, they are great too.
-
2x EVM12L Black Label + 2x Celestion G12K100 in an X-pattern (oh, plus a 2x15" Celestion 100W bass speaker + 2x8" Wharfedale 100W bass speaker cab (X-pattern)). My speaker swapping days have ended.
-
Weber 12F150s - i.e. their version of the old Jensen C12N
Eminence Texas Heats
-
If it must be one speaker, then the 55Hz bass cone version of the G12H-30 is tough to beat.
In a 4x12, I like bass cone G12M-25s on the top and H's on the bottom.
Goodmans are nice, but they have a narrower voice coil than Celestions and don't take the abuse very well - I'm blown every Goodmans speaker I've ever owned.
Fanes can be great, but you need to match them with the amp - perfect with old Sound City and Hiwatts, not so much with Marshalls imo (though a VERY early Fane I have here for home use sounds great with anything, but then again its not 'classic' Fane in it's tonality).
Taydens are great from what I've heard and they did a great job of reconing my alnico Goodmans - they had a GREAT tone.
-
Celestion G12T75s and Vin30s. I would like to try their Warehouse Guitar Speakers equivalents as the parts I don't like are supposedly tamed.
-
Another vote for Electrovoice EVM12L ( Classic / Blue label).
Honourable mentions for Emminence speakers in general ; my own usage being a pair of Emminence in a Raezer's Edge cab , and Emminence customs in a Fender Twin.
The Emminence / Fender specials in the Twin - are voiced surprisingly close to the Electrovoice EVM12L . :)

Celestion Classic lead 80s
First heard them in a VHT Pittbull 2x12" combo in the mid-1990s & was smitten. GREAT sound.
Currently have 2 of them paired with 2 G12K-100s in my Engl 4x12". At some point I'm going to get a Zilla Fat Boy with 2 of them as well.

Celestion Classic lead 80s
Ever tried a 70s or 80s one? I'm slightly curious, since they should be a G12-65 with an 'H' magnet.
Edit: I *think* the new ones are Vintage 30s with a large dust cap
-
No, not that I know of. IIRC I've only heard "new" ones. Not really big on Celestion history :)
No idea whether the new ones are constructed so similarly to V30s, but prefer them to V30s - top end is smoother.

i'm no expert either(!) but have been reading a bit. the large dust cap it has does diffuse the high end.
edit: have often wondered what the old ones sound like. they are just called G12-80. i agree the new ones are nice.
