I've just been browsing the Coda site and they've got one of my favourite guitars in stock. This has to be the best rhythm guitar on the planet doesn't it?
I'd love one of these in this colour:

Sexy. It's like the old Epiphone I've forgotten the name of.
Being a Gretsch is that two volume controls?
-
nice straight forward turn up and go guitar :)
-
Volume (on the horn) and tone (I think). Malc's tone is the shnizzle :D
-
There's something about Gretsch guitars that's getting more alluring as I get older.
-
I'm suprised it's still on the coda site Dave
It is just a quality straight up rock guitar. I'm just not a fan of the cutaway's/horns.
-

It wouldn't be if I hadn't changed my ways!
-
That is great. Couldn't really mean any more business if it tried. Pure and basic. Love it.

I miss the old Dave

Yeah right... We'll expect a new thread in a couple of days then...

No chance guys - no cash to buy it, and I refuse to put it on credit.
Like I said, it's the "New Dave"...

what brought about this change? self control is overrated you know..

I'm really trying to contain my spending this year, plus I've got the tools I need for the bands I'm currently in. Anything else is 'extra' so I'm carrying on my "one in one out" system. The 8 I currently have are superb and anything new has to be super-superb!
-
I seem to have heard this somewhere before....
-
Sounds like people are trying to egg you on Dave
-
Not really a fan of anything Gretsch but that IS real cool. I'm not even going to check it out in more detail 'coz I really like it.
-
lol.. I once had 16 guitars at one point, I then decided two is enough and i've not gone above that since.
Got an old 70s Ibanez Strat and an Atlas LB3.
It's all I need.
I've got a slew of amps though but they come cheap when you build them yourself.
-
That's a cool rhythm-guitar for sure. I like the Gretsch-tones more an more. Middy but with that woody hollowness. Recently played an USA Jet Firebird in red. Amazing guitar, very nice neck and a trem that works.
-
Why oh why, stop making want to buy things if had money would have one of these and one of the single Hb duesenbergs
-
Isn't that what Malcom Young used back in the day?
Dunno if that makes you want it more or less though...
Looks sweet though.
-
It's the Malclom Young sig, schenr ;)
-
Since I already have a Gretsch Jet I don't really NEED one of these. But I do want one. It's not on the top of my list but if I had some extra cash I'd get one.
A plain maple one, TV Jones Classic Plus and a set of 11's with a wound G.
If I were really rich, I'd get an original '62/'63.

that guitar is so nice it almost made my cry.
I WANT IT!!!!
-
That is really a cool Gretsch, especially in this color.
-
I've never really been a Gretsch fan - they look great but they're not "me" at all - but that Malcolm signature is very appealing in its simplicity.
-
more the natural colour for me....though
-

Well that makes sense.. My bad.
-
it's nice an all...but this is the ultimate rock n roll rhythm guitar
(http://www.coda-music.com/images/gibo57lpjnr.jpg)
Though I could be temped by this

I don't know about the "ultimate" anything, but those are my kinds of guitars!
(The Junior anyway, still not 100% sold on the goldtop)
-
I like the junior style guitars and this is my take on one :D

It's a Swineshead pickup that I had made some time a go, it's got Richardson engraved on it.
-
I'd take the Gretsch, the junior, the goldtop....and the PR +

the telecaster is the ultimatr RnR guitar, and eveyone knows that 8)
-
I agree with Elliot- can't beat a Tele for rhythm.

I tend to agree, but i do find myself switching between my tele and my Yam SG200, which is pretty much an LPjunior - set neck, all mahogany.
All mahogany, set neck constriction, short scale length and Mules. Pure frigging awesomeness.
Between the two of them, I think that they do everything I need.

^ what he said, once you get 'tuned' into the Tele's capabilities you realise just how versatile they are. with a P90 at the neck, mine is the one guitar I can do everything with.
those Fender Teles with the big Strat headstock and twin P90s are GREAT, I played one before xmas and its a very versatile guitar (would prefer a rosewood board though, don't like pale maple board, yuk!). If they stained that board a vintage-yellow colour it would be perfect.

If you did get one you'd probably be able to find a vintage tint neck on evilBay, swap 'em and sell the pale one. That's what I did with my Strat and actually turned a profit on the necks! It's a bit of a faff but eminently doable.
-
Aye tink Steve Albini or one of his minions said that mid 1970's Tele Customs and Deluxes are his first choice for rhythm tracks.
Your mileage may vary.
-
Absolutely agree on the tele being the ultimate rhythm guitar. I don't want to play anything else at the moment and have long term plans to get lots of different variations of the tele. Could get expensive (when I have money!)
