Hi guys,
Before I went ahead and started on the vocals, I thought I'd bring the guitars up in the mix and give you all a nice preview of the new version of an old B.o.D song, "Take Me Away".

If you only listen to a few seconds of this song, might I suggest the section starting at 2:45? It's a brand new part I wrote for the new recording, and I'll be completely hacking up and replacing / adding parts to all our old stuff as well as writing new songs. I'm just waiting now for our Lead guitarist to come to my place and record his solo, but my Bass player has already recorded his solo, which you can hear almost halfway in.
Equipment:
Cubase 5 Essential
Superior Drummer 2.0 with Metal Foundry add-on (modified the Gene Hoglan kit to my tastes, heh)
B.C Rich NJ series Warlock with a set of covered Nailbombs
Pod XT Live, using my Nadz Powerball patch (which you can find here: http://line6.com/customtone/tone/209539/ )
Really loving this sound right now, although I feel I am pretty much squeezing all of the potential tone out of my gear now. Definitely going custom this year and have sent off for a Daemoness quote.
Thanks for listening.

Ha! That hits me well at a bunch of places. I like the power metal influences and the melodeath can always be brought as far as I'm concerned. The little tapping riff over the open chords was gorgeous and was glad to hear it used twice. Good stuff!
-
Cheers dude! Yeah the first part of that used to be the first part of my old solo, but I can't play lead for toffee, so it's now just the 2nd guitar part for the choruses, the tapping bit is new though.
Thanks for the appreciation! :D

The slower solos with some real travel in the song is what turns me on lately. Weedleydeedleydoodlysquealwhammytrick @ 240BPM is kinda boring now. I mean it's the difference between Chris and Michael Amott solos. I'll take Michael's any day of the week, though Chris is no slacker. I think a more thoughtful solo could really work well here, IMO. Update when you have it finished up man!
-
Sounds nice, even for a digital amp. I think you need to move the track to the right ahead about 40-50 miliseconds, cause it sounds like there is a slight lag time between the tracks, giving it a almost heavy chorus sound, making it slightly muddy, it's most noticeable in the palm mutes.
If I ever get a Les Paul, Nailbombs are the only pickups going in it.
-
Hey Nadzilla, since it seems you jive with my sound the most out of all the clips I've heard, what qualities of the Nailbomb do you wish were different and if you could swap them for any pickups currently on the lineup, what would you choose man? Is that a ceramic NB in the bridge? Thanks.
-
They're the Alnico ones. IMO I think prefer the Alnico to the Ceramic, but that's only because the Alnico seems to have more midrange.
I would only swap them both for a Painkiller Bridge and a Cold Sweat neck if anything now that I know a bit more about the range, but the Nailbomb will always have a special place in my heart!
I'm keeping these for now as they seem to go well with my guitar, but I'm getting the PK bridge and CS neck combo in the custom guitar I'm ordering later this year.

fierce sounding guitars and nicely melodic.the drums wern't overpowering either, especially the kick drum which often is.it could be a great piece with the right vocals (not the angry dog variety) 8)

Cheers dude! Yeah I'm really happy with the guitar sound this time around. :)
For reference, the old recording with all the vocals and my guitar solo are here:

The new one sounds fatter and the guitar tone is way better. I have picked up a fair few new techniques and have a better understanding of how recording stuff works since I recorded the original.
Oh, and it's called "Fly Me Away" in the player, scroll down on the left hand side.
-
I really like that song! Very nice guitar sound. What band was that from!
-
My band, Bane Of Deceit. I write all the music and lyrics. :)
However, we MAY be changing our name. The bass player and I think we have outgrown it and are going to change it to something more general. My lyrics aren't always about sticking two fingers up to the corporate overlords any more, they're much more diverse now, so we need a name that can roll with us as we change and evolve. Bane of Deceit is kinda like the Ronseal of band names, heh.
The only recordings we still have up online are on our Facebook page, please feel free to "like" or "become a fan", as when the name change happens, we'll be putting out a bulletin on there with links to the new website we are having made.
Thanks for listening and for the compliments! :D

Just listened over to this.
And i must say it is sounding pretty awesome for a pod recording.
I have tried with your tones and cant get anything anywhere near this lol.
I have always loved this song of yours so i cant wait to hear it finished. I especially like the new section really adds tension to the song
-
Have you tried quadding the guitars mate? I quad-tracked both guitar parts, which might be why it sounds uber-fat. You really have to layer up tracks when using a Pod, because they can sound really thin on their own. I can't wait to get my AxeFX one day, heh.
-
Yeah i always quad track everything unless its just a quick sketch.
Im not too fussed anyway as i use my marshall for recording nowadays and soon (well i say soon but more like 6 months) ill have finished building my SLO clone
