Title: Alnico V pickup- featured in early '50s Les Paul Customs

Well Hello,

I've been looking recently at a certain pickup in the neck of the early '50s Les Paul customs. I don't believe they had a name other than Alnico Vs, confusing I know. Anyway, does anyone have any information about this pickup, or perhaps where I can buy one? Do BKP produce one, or could they if requested?

I have a LP custom with the Alnico pickup on it.  I was talking with Tim about making a P-90 with Alnico V poles rather than screws to see if it would give this sound.  They are more Fenderish than the normal P-90.

From what I've read, they give a very desireable sound. I'm a fan of the strat neck pickup anyway. At the moment, though, I lack a guitar to put one in. A Les Paul Junior is next on the list for purchase, but unfortunately they don't have routing for a neck pickup.

The Alnico V 'staple' pickup seems to have a very similar sound to the DeArmond single coils. I used to have a DeArmond M77T with the 2K pickups. The 'staple' pickup was made to sound like a DeArmond single coil, the Gretsch Dynasonics and DeArmond 2000 are modern replicas of those. The DeArmond 2K was made to sound more like a regular P90. (DeArmond 2000 and 2K are quite different from eachother)

I've got a pair of Dearmond 2000s in my Gretsch Streamliner. The give a great sound, especially for rhythm playing. The guitar is fully hollow, so would probably sound quite different to a solidbody with that type of pickup.

George Harrison and Cliff Gallup used to play Gretsch Duo Jets with DeArmonds. That's the kind of sound you'll get. It's a bit like a mix between a Les Paul and a Telecaster.
