Today I raised the screws on my Aftermath bridge pick up to try to get more bite out of it, but the differences in sound were not that noticable to my ears. It did get a little more bite, but it also sounded slightly looser to me. Are these results normal?

Raising the screws will increase the treble. I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong someone, raising the bridbe side pole pieces will shift th resonant frequency higher and raising the neck side will shift it lower. So if you raised all the poles in the pup you may not be reaching the goal you want. To add bite only raise the poles closest to the bridge. Also try lowering the pup a bit that should add a little more snap and attack.

Also, would raising the pole pieces add more magnetic pull to the string resulting in less sustain?

that i'm not sure of. It would make sense that raising them would increase the magnetic pull if you kept the overall height the same, since it's getting close to the strings. But I really dont know.
