Title: what BKP for LP Custom?

I have a Gibson LP custom from '85 and i'm thinking about changing the stock p'up at the bridge 'cause i think it's a bit too muddy sounding. I was recommend to check out BKP. Which one would be best for me?
I play bluesrock and metal and play through an Eleven Rack.

Tones i'm after (but most of it I get through my Eleven Rack i think :) ):

Metal: Megadeth, Metallica, Randy Rhoads/Jake E. Lee/ Zakk Wylde
Bluesrock: Jimi Hendrix, Joe Bonamassa, Slash/GnR

That's about it :)

Megadeth - Painkiller / Aftermath / Cold Sweat
Metallica - Miracle Man / Aftermath
Randy Rhoads - The Mule / Riff Raff
Jake E. Lee - Holy Diver
Zakk Wylde - Miracle Man
Jimi Hendrix - Riff Raff (?)
Joe Bonamassa - The Mule / PG Blues
Slash - The Mule / Stormy Monday

I'd be between a nailbomb or holy diver for the bridge, probably a mule for the neck
I like the Diver better, but the Nailbomb has a more aggressive edge for Megadeth/Metallica

Post by: fr33man1 on February 16, 2011, 06:44:27 PM: I'm coming from nailbombs to black dogs on my 68 reissue custom. i'll tell you if its enough to go for the metallica side (I'm digging their sound too), I could pull out a strong thrash sound out of an riff raff'ed sg so I guess the black dog being more muscular it will sound cool.

Post by: shaman on February 16, 2011, 09:29:18 PM: my '91 LPC gave me fits -fits of brightness..the nailbombs were right at home until I found a killer deal on a Cold Sweat-had to check it out-finally had a powerful,darker tone which compliments my amps(Boogies thru Ev loaded cabs)-best ceramic I have ever played-still have a NB neck, and its a cool combo-with 11 rack, I suppose you would not have the matching dilemma I ran into-my LPC is a bright beeotch!

Post by: fr33man1 on February 17, 2011, 04:10:58 PM: I just fitted the black dogs in my les paul custom and I have to admit its very growly and thick for a PAF pickup type. It stays tight, clear and very grainy even to drop C, amazing. If you're looking for a massive sound with a touch of growl and slight vintage vibe, go for the Black dogs. Nailbombs were more percussive but less rich sounding and more edgy with this metal vibe to anything you played imo. Black dogs are versatile and seem ready for about anything on a les paul. Do it. :lol:
