Have any of you tried out one yet? It sounds like an engl amp which i would buy :)
Seriously, it seems like they have fixed the engl flaws from the past, and made this beast :)

Who is Victor Smolski?
-
don't know, but what a funkster.(didn't he say he's in a band called rage?)
-
I haven't watched the video. Presumably a boy from the honking power metal nonsense-crew Rage, then.
-
His hair is very very beautiful :D
He's the most handsome man in narnia :)
-
take it you didn't watch Rage at bloodstock last year then?
-
I dont really listen to his kind of music :)
I just really like the sound(and looks) of this amp :)

What are the Engl flaws that all models except the VS sig suffer from?
-
Imho i thought the powerball/fireball 1's had a very inactive EQ. You could hear little diffrence between bass on 1 or 10.
It was also kind of lifeless. Like the amps version of a EMG 81.
Bear in mind that this is my view on it and you may think different. I just happen to share my opinion with a lot of people i know.
But i got my hope back when i tried the fireball 100. It's voiced alot different and is a bit more "evil" :)
-
Yeah, the fireballs and powerballs are very dry and tight amps but
I wouldn't call them necessarily lifeless. Not my fave Engls either. What cab did you play through? Just interested :D
-
I played them through their pro cabs with vintage 30's in it.
An engl i really liked was the blackmoore. but not that much. Their preamps are awesome.
Ampwise my favs are; Rectifiers, Mr hectors and old marshalls.
But this just hits the nail on how i want my amp to sound like. Especially when that german store dude plays it :)
-
FWIW, I think it looks hideous. The snakeskin tolex is too flashy & the chain grille is just silly. I prefer the "workmanlike" look :)
Also, that German store guy did a great demo of the Steve Morse 100 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJZ4RqP3MuY). If I'd been able to make it sound like that I'd have got the credit card out when I tried it, but I just couldn't get a high gain sound I liked out of it. OK, so I was using the std 4x12 with V60s which can't have helped. But the point is that the demos might not necessarily match your experience, unless you have all the other gear (especially the cab) being used :)
-
aaand same playing style, etc :D i think thats the most important factor :D an amp will not make you sound tighter if you're sloppy as hell :D

I certainly did not. Power metal is the devil.
-
*ahem*
Power Metal isn't the Devil. It's just music for w**kers.
I'd prefer to reserve the Devil for the good tunes. I'll see you when I'm surfing the lake of fire ;)

I watched them... as I was expecting some thrash metal :/
