What about the purple lion custom Johnathan has for sale at feline guitars.

If it was left handed I would have it myself.

Here is the link :-

Depends how much cash you have, but one the Lions above or a used Gibson CS 57/8 would get my vote.

There's a '58 at Vintage and Rare:

http://www.vintageandrareguitars.com/web/Our-Catalogue/Gibson/Electric-Solid-Guitars

This 1991 reissue looks nice:

Other than that, my usual shops don't seem to have any  :(

Couple of private sales here:

LP Traditional:  http://www.musicradar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=77651

AFD LP here:  http://www.musicradar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=75807

Best of the lot is this one if you have cash:

Feline or a duesenberg get my vote

yep, tokai are a good bet, but but you'd want an ls 135(now 145) or an ls 150(now 160) if you want vintage accurate specs( 59 i think).this is where the value/quality is best. above this (ls 200 +)your paying for fancy maple patterns and at the very top custom shop stuff(ls370 off the top of my head).
they're (135/45:150/60) hard to find though and maybe chancy second hand as they're very difficult to identify.

Right, a bit more info as my last posts were from my phone.

Ideally, its got to be a Gibson, I know that Tokais/Burny/Greco have been touted as better but for me, there aint nothing like a Gibson. I'd rather not spunk that much cash on a second hand instrument, so, has anyone had much experience with the Gibson Traditional and 2008 Standard range?

From Dave's link, this one looks awesome:
http://www.vintageandrareguitars.com/web/our-catalogue/Gibson/Electric-Solid-Guitars/item/7394

I guess it will not be very expensive as it's a year with no "vintage dream" related...

I've had Standards,Classics,Customs and Norlins.
I would go for a  Les Paul Classic, great Lesters to play ,speedy necks and good tone for not a lot of cash or a Norlin, just because the two I've had have beeen superb to play and sound great. I even prefer my 71 Gold Top to my 57 RI Custom.

Unfortunately, that's an early reissue and is quite collectible.  Probably around £3500.....

Fantastic guitar but those heritage R.I's are going up in value and I doubt it would be less than £2500.

Played recently some used Les Paul Classics and some are quite good. I like the necks. Don't like the pu's though, but they're easily replaced by BKP's. The quality of the new standards seems somewhat unstable and I see them offered used quite often. Doesn't mean you can't find a good one. Test thoroughly.
When I see the love Feline puts in his guitars, I think they can compete easily (never played them, heard them on youtube). The problem only is resale. I suppose a used Gibson sells easier bec of the aura of/around the brand. On the other hand, on this forum there a lot of Feline-addicts...

I think Telerocker makes some good points here.

On the forum we got a number of very good guitar makers on the forum . Feline guitars being one. I think the sale (lion model) guitars, give you a great guitar for a good price.  In my experience you get a lot of guitar for your money. Like telerocker says though resale may not be as good as a gibson. So if you like to change your guitars regulary these may not be for you. If however you are buying the instrument as a keeper does the resale value really matter.

Depends on the buyer, but £3000 is definitely possible.

I just picked up a really nice1995  Les Paul Classic Plus on eBay for $1255.  It has had a headstock break, but the repair looks really good, and it holds its tuning and sustains like mad.  It is a honeyburst finish (with no real burst), never had a scratchplate and has the original case too.  I'd look for a used one of them for value.

Congrats. Hope the headstock holds well.

Paddy

I saved for 2 years to go for a R9 (instead of starting with a Standard and working my way up) as I knew I would not settle till I got a '59 reissue. It was well worth it in the end. If you could get to £3k I think you may be lucky and pick up a good one (although they're now nearer £4k new  :( )

I tried about 8 before I found the one that was calling me - they're all so different really. But the R8 is also great and a bit cheaper.
First thing I did when I got it home?........... ripped out the Burstbuckers and put Mules in (with aged covers of course) - absolutely bloody marvellous.

Good luck in your cash-parting activities.

I'd go to Angel Music on Denmark Street. Above Macaris. They have quite a few les pauls all under 2K. Various pickups, colours, standards, customs, a silver burst... good rates! All second hand like, but maybe worth a look.

It might be me but I wouldn't buy a standard. If you're spending that money you're light years ahead with an historic - even if it's an R7 (not that there's nuttin wrong with an R7 - depends if you must have a burst top.)

If you buy a standard the first time you play an historic you'll cry. Even if you swap out all the parts on a standard it'll never sound as good and if you do some selective mods to an historic you'll have a killer.
