Title: NGD (sorta): Edwards LP Custom - also some BKP content within
Post by: Spiteface on March 05, 2011, 06:19:44 PM
I got this earlier this week, apologies for the shoddy pic:

An Edwards LP-92-CD.  Found it for sale on another forum I recently signed up to.

Heaviest guitar I played, and the most I've paid for one guitar at £650 albeit in Mint condition.  Still plays and feels good though.  Neck is really nice - i've not had much experience with anything beyond Epiphones and Mexican Fenders in price range, but from what I understand, Edwards' LP necks are a bit like a '59, but not quite as thick.

Normally these have Seymour Duncan pickups installed - a bridge JB and a neck '59 (one or two exceptions though, like a John Sykes-style black custom which has SD Distortions in it).  the chap I purchased this fine example from from has changed the JB for none other than a BK Nailbomb.  These guitars can cost about £700 new(according to the one UK-based site I found that stocks 'em), and with a pickup that I knew would cost over £100 more, I thought this was a good deal, even if I didn't like the Nailbomb.

About that, I had concerns that because  it is a really high output pickup, that it might be more suited to "metal" and little else.  I still went along with it, because I thought, at worst I can get new pickups and sell the Nailbomb to get a few quid back.  As it turns out, it's nothing of the sort, not through my Orange Tiny Terror anyway, although I'm sure with the right amp/pedals it can do that.  What I got out of it, was just a good sound with a bit more kick than I'm maybe used to from my other HB-equipped guitars (A stock Korean Epiphone LP I've had for 10 years and my Dot with Riff Raffs).  So, I am choosing to leave it as it is for now, not just because I'm trying to save my money for a while, but because I'm happy with the sound.  Definitely my new favourite guitar already.  I know I'm probably still in the "honeymoon" period with it, so to speak, but I'm just so happy with it.

I'll try and get some better photos done when I get the chance, I promise!

Rumbled.

Note to self. You don't need another guitar!

Congratulations, sounds like a good score.

I'm not usually a fan of white guitars, but that does look rather special in that pic :D

I've been GASing for a custom lately. Lovely lovely stuff. Very jealous. I do think I would prefer black though.

Nice one there. Although somehow I associate Gibson-tye guitars with goldtop, black and cherry sunburst, this white is at least something different.

Seriously cool looking in white and it's already got a BKP in it. Nice one.

White and black Customs are just about the only guitars which look "right" with gold hardware, I think.  And you can't go far wrong with an Edwards!  :D

+1... generally I really dislike gold hardware, but I like it on customs. I wouldn't say they're the only guitars they work on, occasionally i see a guitar with gold hardware that works, but they're definitely one of the few ones where it works.
