Title: Pickup similar tothe WCR Goodwood?
Post by: papersoul on January 04, 2006, 10:16:23 PM
Hi all!

Does Tim make a pickup similar to the WCR Goodwood which is a big and fat overwound PAF tone with stunning clarity and smoothness. I'd be curious to check out a BK.

Thanks!

Not familier with the WCR stuff, had a few in for re-wind though. Check out the VHII, for fat overdriven clear tones it cant be beaten.

I think it's about 9.5k with 42 gauge wire wound tight.

Definatly the VHII, it has a DC of 9.4K. I expect ours will have a more defined top end due to its special offset coils. 42 gauge plain enamel, alnico V mag, wound tight, as always.

Thanks! Is it potted? Is the Crawler much hotter than it or is it deceiving due to the wire gauge?

I'll email you because I was curious the price in the USA for one.

I did not try the Goodwoods, but the DB's are brighter than Mule. I think the Mule could be a good competitors to the Goodwoods. Just my 2 cents.

I think all the covered BKP's are double wax potted.

Maybe if they made a hotter Mule like 9k or more!

I thought wax potting kills the dynamics and tone of a pickup!

I had a lot of pickups and, to my ears, wax potting don't change anything. But I have to admit that the WCR I tried did not squeal at all, without any wax!

The Crawler is wound with a thinner wire, and is quite a bit hotter. The VHII is about as hot as you can get and still retain the sound of 42 gauge.

Cool, thanks. I guess there is a difference of opinion on whether or not wax effects the tone? I do know that the Rio Grande BBQ pickups I have used were some of ther biggest and richest pickups I have used and had incredible sustain and good clarity and they were wax potted like crazy!

I had a BBQ, and can honestly that Mule is far richer (in the mids) than BBQ.

The Abraxas is sometimes described like a "hotter Mule"; I think it's around 14k for the bridge.
