i've had this on loop for a while: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYRSvQXkcZ0&feature=related
I'm such a sucker for Aeolian -> Lydian progressions. One of the producers on the track (Dr. Luke) is a very talented lead guitarist as well. That makes the song more awesomer imo.
edit: i'm also a sucker for tuned 808 bass kicks.

That Richard Thompson vid is pretty good. He played at The Anvil (Basingstoke live music venue) last year. By all accounts he was very very good.
I'm not so sure about the Britney song though :?

The Richard Thompson version is awesome - he makes the song sound sinister as hell. I heard an interview where he showed that Oooops I did it again was actually based on an classic Elizabethan lute progression - and I think he shows it at about 2:34.

That must be similar (or from) the tour he did last year then. If I recall correctly he was covering the history of music - referencing modern songs and showing where they came from i.e. they may not be as original as you think. Interesting stuff if you find that stuff interesting.
I'm now wondering where FYMW originates from

Yup, it was his "one thousand years of popular music" tour where he went from early mediaeval folk songs up to present day pop songs.
He even sounds good playing a gig in the back of a taxi
