Title: 2 Really Stupid Questions
Post by: TV Robot on March 09, 2011, 05:01:32 AM
Question #1: I love the solo on Mr. Blue Sky by ELO and was wondering if I could get a tone similar to that with Mississippi Queens, seeing as it's played with P90's. There wouldn't happen to be any humbuckers that I could squeeze this tone out of is there?

Mr. Blue Sky solo is 1:08-1:28:

Question #2: Let's say I'm playing a three humbucker (can buy adapter mounting rings if needed), tone-chambered mahogany body, rosewood fretboard guitar through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III combo; what pickups would you recommend for Muse/Zeppelin/90's punk pop/"whatever else you want to think of for now" type sound? I know Matt Bellamy is fond of Nailbombs and Mississippi Queens. I've also heard the Mule is great for Page tones. Also, if I just wanted a really versatile guitar for playing most anything except for maybe jazz, hair/shred/extreme metal, and funk, which 3 pups would you recommend for that (using same equipment previously stated)?

Sorry I know these are really dumb questions.

i can't see why not! ;)
you've just got to turn bridge tone off... let's say halfway off.
i don't think it's really difficul to achieve with any vintage voiced humbucker (a Mule, for example), but of course a MQ would be the ideal choice. A Stockholm, maybe (to have a fatter tone)? i have no direct experience with bridge Stockholms, though...
