Title: Recommend me a fuzz face clone
Post by: Mr. Air on March 09, 2011, 02:40:59 PM
I'm getting into the fuzz sound and wondering if I shouldn't buy myself some kind of fuzz face clone as it seems to be what I dig the most soundwise.

Any recommendations?

Silicon or germanium?

I'm not totally sure of the differences between silicon and germanium, but isn't the germanium versions closest to the original fuzz face and there by less aggressive than the silicon models?

If I'm right I'll say a germanium model, but I think I could get by with either of the two.

Analogman Sunface. Now which version depends on your tastes and ears.

I dont usually like silicon FFs, but Juansolo built a Skreddy Lunar Module clone recently and I really like it.
It's not quite a FF, it has a boost on the front end, but its not like a Tonebender Mk.II.  Works really well.  Very smooth for a silicon.

I really like all the Skreddy pedals I've heard.

Yeah the Skreddy pedals are the dogs bollocks. I keep forgetting the lunar module is based on a fuzz face. I can highly recommend this one as well.

I believe Gilmour used a boost along with the fuzz face for the recording of Dark Side of the Moon, so that probably explains why it's got that boost up front.

BMF is generally considered the best Fuzz Face clone made today.
