Title: Ground hum

Hi All

I've recently been suffering ground hum from my Tokai 335. Obviously I've been putting off looking for the problem as its a 335!! However today I bit the bullet and decided to combine the job with replacing the bridge PU with a Riff Raff.

The upshot is that I've got the bits of cotton attached to the pots and the pickup replaced and I think working (it responds to tapping any way). BUT I can't find where the ground hum is coming from. I thought the problem was the jack socket as when I touched it to a neck volume or tone shaft the hum disappeared.

Since changing the pickup this solution no longer seems to work plus when I earthed the jack to the treble vol pot this cut the sound out (and hum) completely.

Please bare in mind i'm an electronic numpty too

Any ideas?

Ground hum will be the death of my band. I think the same thing is going on with my bassist's bass.

Second session with the soldering iron after tea: Pickup installed - Sounds excellent, really beefs up the 335 tone, resoldered a couple of iffy looking joints and (touch wood) success.

Test tomorrow through Pete Cornish linedriver into MK50 II - It should be a tone to die for I hope!! :lol:
