Title: English Valve Amps
Post by: Onepiece on March 17, 2011, 12:53:22 PM
Anybody out there using their amps?

I've seen good reviews in Guitar Buyer and on Harmony Central but they don't have any audio on their website (http://www.englishvalveamps.co.uk/index2.html) and there aren't any demos on Youtube that I can find.

Hmmm ... lots of variations on 18Watt 6V6 and EL84 amps, maybe I'm getting cynical in my old age but there's a lot of freely available schematics and designs around on the internet for amps like that.

There's plenty of audio clips on their site though - go to Products, click on an amp name and scroll down a bit.

Thanks for that, Frank.   :)   I hadn't been through all the models.

Unfortunately they only have 2 clips - both Hendrix tunes done with a strat, nothing with humbuckers (I'm more of a Les Paul guy )

You are right to say that these are common styles of amp but EVA don't claim otherwise.  I think what matters is how well they are done and what value they give so if anyone has hands-on experience I'd love to hear about it.

I saw these at one of the guitars shows goig back about 18 months. They sounded quite nice and the price of the smaller ones seemed very resonable.

haha he's talking about the brand "english valve amps"

But i agree it's a horrible name. Makes web or forum searches for them almost impossible.

FWIW I haven't tried them, but have heard pretty good things about them. Whether what I've heard has been accurate, I dunno

I've got a Matamp C7 Deluxe, but it's so loud it's unusable as a home amp, so I'm going to sell it.

Thanks for bringing the thread back for me. :)  Perhaps I should have put the name quotes like you did!

Incidentally, I understand that if you want to use the term 'English' in a name you need permission from The Queen!  I wonder if EVA did?

I'd be utterly astounded if that's true, I really, really doubt it.

Companies House lists 'England' and 'English' in the list of sensitive words that require special permission from the Secretary of State before incorporation is permitted.  OK, he isn't The Queen but he is her Secretary of State.
