Got another one for the forums!
So I just realized that I want to try swapping the PUPs in this guitar. About 1 year ago I replace the stock Humbucker in the bridge with a Seymour Duncan Screamin Demon, once I found out that Chris has a SD in the bridge. Now I want to go BKs all around, and I want to completely overhaul the pickups.
This guitar has a Mahogany body, Maple neck, Ebony Fretboard; w/ a Schaller Floyd trem. PUP set up is H-S-S. What do you guys think? Would the Miracle Man HSS set sound pretty bad ass?
I want opinions!! :)

holy diver + booster

holy diver nails AEnemy tones ;) . Specially for those thick melodic lead licks.

Completely agree!

Oh okay, cool! :) I was thinking something a little brighter, to compliment the Mahogany body.
So the Holy Diver is a pretty diverse pickup, too?
What are some of the differences between the MM and HD?
Is the HD comparable in the gain department?

well, it's not as high output as the other models of the contemporary line, but it's quite versatile and sounds quite metal with a proper booster
the miracle man is hotter, more bassy, a lot less middy and has a more aggressive high end
if you want something in the middle, try the alnico nailbomb
it's just a bit less hot than the miracle man, and its voicing sits right in between the holy diver and miracle man
what are your amps and pedals, by the way?

Thanks for the reply!
I am currently playing through an Engl Savage 120; and an Engl Fireball 100. These are plugged into a Mesa 4x12 with Vintage 30s.
I have a few pedals going through the front of the amp. I have in this order:
Maxon OD808-->Dimebag wah pedal-->MXR Setro Chorus---> MXR EVH Phase 90-->Amp.
I have my delay and noise gate running through the loop, inthe back.
I like the clips of the Alnico NB. You don't think it will sound muddy with that guitar?
-
No, I don't think so. It has a decent amount of uppermids and treble, and besides that, the mapleneck and ebony will add some air, higher frequencies, percussion.

What do you guys think of a Ceramic Nailbomb in the bridge, and 2 sinners in the single coil spots??
Think the sinners are too hot to be paired to a C-Bomb, or A-Bomb?
-
That would make it a hot modern set, great for metal and everything more heavy. The C-bomb will be tighter then the A-bomb, but will not clean up as warm like the alnico-version.
-
Defo diver then ! Engl +v30 is quite bright and no so full sounding imo. The diver should bring you a very thick and full sound and some of the best lead sounds you could expect ;).
-
The NB and the MM both will do Arch Enemy style rhythm sounds, but they won't sound like the trademark lead sounds the Amott brothers are known for - especially Michael. The HD has this slightly pronounced upper mids on the top end that make the leads sound right.
-
Hmm okay, I atleast have it narrowed down to 2 Humbuckers. Would it change anyones opinion, knowing that I have all of my guitars tuned to C-Standard?
I guess I also want to ask another question (maybe I should make another thread), but has anyone ever taken a HSS set up and set it up like this:
H: midhigh-high output pick up (think Holy Diver, or A-Nailbomb)
Mid S: Vintage/low output pickup (Think Irish Tour)
Neck S: High output pikcup (Think Sinner)
The reason why I'm asking is I want to go for a good distorted rhythm sound in the bridge, very modern and good for metal. In the mid position I want something vintage that will clean up nicely and give me a great clean tone. In the neck I want something very modern with high output for my lead tone. Does this sound alright in theory to you guys?
-
Nevermind the last 3 paragraphs, I started another thread. I think the two questions should not be in the same topic.
So, would my C-standard tuning change anyones opinion?
-
I still vote for the diver, especially after you told us your rig

Me too.
