Title: Bogner Goldfinger - anyone played one yet?
Post by: Twinfan on March 22, 2011, 10:03:45 PM
The title says it all!  They seem like a cool amp on spec, wondered if anyone's close enough to a GuitarGuitar shop to have tried one out yet?

Heard it in the shop (Maxguitars, The Hague, Holland), didn't get a chance to play it. The tones are really convincing. The first Bogner I would like to buy. Thick, raunchy vintages tones (plexi), but can do some metal stuff too. Cleans are great too. Lots of options on this amp. Really a rockbeast. Maybe I'm not objectiv, bec I like 6V6-amps (playing myself an Orange Rockerverb 50).

I'm let down they don't play that Shirley Bassett song from Bond through this amp  :D

Was out with several GuitarGuitar guys last night. When I was doing the usual 'anything interesting come in recently?' bit I got a 'nah, nowt' so it can't have caught their attention much - if they actually have any in yet.

Website says there's 4+ in stock...

I thought the demos were very impressive. Masses of tweakability, a bit of an amp for all seasons though there's 1800 reasons why I can't have one.

I'm wondering whether to chop the AFD100 in for one...

i'd have thought the splawn's would be up your street if the marshall isn't living up to expectations.i also think by
end of spring the £ will be trading higher against the dollar which may make them a good buy (direct from usa), i'm
hoping for 1:1.85  £:$ , we'll see.

I've got the XTC that does the Splawn thing.

This clip might just have sold it to me...

I saw one in the Birmingham store last week, but didn't think to try it out... the pots all felt nice though, not cheap feeling :)

yeah, that does sound pretty righteous if you're into old-school plexi and JCM800-inspired tones - I'd happily gig one of those.

I have to be honest and say I don't think the Marshall sounds all that special and I still prefer the Jubilee.... I'd trade up in a heartbeat if I had the cash Dave!

Haven't played it but from all I've read and some info from a friend who's got one, I'd say it's the "better Shiva" - meaning it's got that tone and depth of the Shiva Ch2, but with a more versatile clean and a drive channl that can also do 80s hardrock. Based on that I'd get one anyday.

I like the dynamics and one of the many tweaks I like is the choice between parallel and series loops.

I played the Shiva and it's a nice amp, but found it missing something in the drivechannel. It is growling, but in a polished way, at least with my guitars. The Goldfinger has more punch to my ears and more magic to the tone.

You could instead exchange the XTC. IMO the Marshall would be more the candidate to give you a different flavour. The Classic and the Goldfinger would both be versatility/switchers with a similar voice, the Marshall a 1Ch no frills amp and more agressively voiced.

I had a situation where I had at one point 3 channel switchers (100B, Steavens and Triamp) and it didn't make any sense. So now I have the 100B as my versatility machine and the Cornford for pure 1Ch punch.

Funny you should say that Hunter, I've been thinking the same thing.

However, I played the XTC last night and it's so awesome the Goldfinger can't beat it.

GAS over

while we're talking amps in general, has anyone tried the Badcat Hotcat 30 before? - there is a video of Brad Whitford playing one on Youtube and it sounds righteous...

I played one of those and kept looking for the treble pot, but it was already at 10. No bite from these IMO. They have a great harmonic overdrive, but I bet once you play it in context, you're gonna be drowned out.

really, I'm quite surprised by that having heard the tone Brad Whitford was getting.
