it recently occured to me that my guitar would be so easy to customize as it has to arch top or smooth finish. the grain is visible and rough- the body is almost just a plank of bare wood!!!
anyone got any idea for customizing it? so far i only thought about maybe painting it or carving stuff into it.
come on everyone use your creative genius-ness!

What type of guitar is it? How much money have you got? What do you really want to change on the guitar/what don't you like about it?
Answer some questions and we could probably come up with some cool ideas. I'm always a fan of wiring mods, but that's me.

well it's a gibson les paul melody maker- one p-90 pickup. i'm not sure how much i would be willing to spend just depends how cool or worthwhile the mod is. Originally i was just thinking about changing the aesthetics but i dunno maybe a wiring mod could be good. My options would probably me very limited though with just the one pick-up. What kind of stuff have you done then?

A Floyd Rose ala Saxon.
-
is that some type kind of trem?
-
Yeah, it is, but I think you'd PREFER a Bigsby. They're more Gibsony than Floyd Roses. And they look ace.

You could also re-finish it so it looks like a Junior. Pickguard, as well. Then you'd have a pretty schweet guitar.

yer that's a good idea. how much do bigsby's cost tho? i've seen them on some pretty expensive stuff like gretch's.
i thought about a pickguard but i just haven't got around to looking for one yet.

They are pretty expensive. You'd be looking at a good £100 for the Bigsby itself, and you'd probably need to upgrade things like tuners/nuts/bridge. A good idea is to get rolling saddles for your bridge, so the strings slide over it more easily. I got some for my Gretsch to stop it snapping strings, but I had to modify them to fit the Gretsch's bridge. They should be fine for Gibson tune-o-matics, though.

That site also sells Bigsby, tuners, nuts, pickguards. Good site.

kool thanks. i never thought about a bigsby but that could be pretty cool.
-
warning: Bigsby's have VERY limited travel, yu'll probably get about a semitone difference in pitch out of it before you pull the arm off. not to be used for vai-like tremwork, or even divebombs. Strictly vibrato

But if you didn't get a Floyd Rose it wouldn't be ala Saxon.
