Title: Progress
Post by: richard on March 29, 2011, 01:49:35 PM
2 hours later and things are getting better. Treble side of the bridge pickup is now flush with the mounting ring.  the amp is now responding better but I'm having to keep the treble down at about 2 or 3 on the dial. I love the clear, open sound of these buckers and they have a great growl on chords. It's just the sheer amout of top that has surprised me. It makes me think that maybe most modern amps are voiced with machine wound pick ups in mind meaning drastic EQ alterations are necessary when you use scatter wounds.

Was there an earlier part of this thread which got deleted?  :?

(Welcome to the forum, by the way!)

Yes, managed to mess things up and start two threads - see Rebel Yells by Richard. More fiddling about, getting closer. While still trying to tame the top end I've produced some tones that are way closer to the ones in my head than I've ever got before. The Rebels have far less output than the 490/498T and WAY less than my JB but they're a lot more EXPLOSIVE. The tones seem to fly out. Can't wait to try these at rehearsal.

if the treble still annoys you, you can send it back to be rewound as a holy diver or crawler
