Title: Pickup Install Question *foolish, but will ask*
Post by: Riffmagus on March 30, 2011, 08:39:01 PM
Evening All,
I'm about to install my Warpig/Sinner/Sinner combo tomorrow night and just want to check something.

The Warpig HB is a zebra design (so cream/black coil.)

Middle Sinner S/C is cream

Neck Sinner S/C  is black.

So, for colour it goes cream/black/cream/black.

However, when screwing them into my Southpaw Pacifica, I noticed the black coil on the Warpig has a bigger magnetic pull than the cream side. Should this be installed nearest the bridge - messing up my colour scheme or does it not matter???

As I am a lefty, the pickup is currently installed so on the reverse of the scratch plate the wires are poking out of the top of the pu.

Just want to make sure I'm not screwing anything up here!

Cheers,

-Riff.

Confused by that statement - as the single magnet in the warpig would not have greater pull whether it is the north side or the south
And with the warpig having identical screw polepieces (whether they be allen bolt or fillister head ones) that shouldn't cause any difference in magnetic pull.

Could you illuminate further for us as so far I can't see what you are saying.....

Sorry for not being clear -

What I meant by stronger magnet pull is that my screwdriver tip 'feels' to have a bigger magentic pull on the black coil of the Warpig which is facing the neck than the cream coil which is next to the bridge.

As I'm installing it in my lefty guitar - should the black coil be closest to the bridge, or does it simply not matter?

Just want to ensure I get the wiring and soldering right first time.

Many thanks.

Could it be that your screwdriver is slightly magnetised - so when you touch it to one side of the pickup it is being slightly more strongly attracted?

Well, I have wired the Pig up and it's sounding awesome. Cream ring first - pretty much music to my ears! Going to stop wondering about it and get down to enjoying some guitar!
