There is very little information out there, even on the Fender Information Base forum. You may check the Bill Lawrence Gate there.

I wish there was more information!  Presumably the miniature second coil is there to reduce hum, without influencing the single-coil tone too much? 

I have to say, it has a bit of a mad-scientist look about it.  It looks like it would break after about 5 minutes.
