hardtail jazzmaster - just my taste
-
That's a nice looking guitar but Jazzmasters were never really my thing.
Also Squier lose all credibility due to this ...

IMO, the sunburst looks better 8)
-
The VM Jazzmaster looks cool, apart from the top-loading bridge which appears to be very cheap and nasty and (probably) a pain in the arse to adjust.
-
And a pain in the arse to play. I don't like this vertical piece on the back at all.

but probably quite easy to replace with a proper string through hardtail.
-
Yeah, but then you'd also need a new scratchplate - custom-made, because you can absolutely guarantee a standard one won't fit. It ends up practically doubling the price of the guitar before you know it!

Yes, the bridge would have to go but apart from that it's a very tasty indeed. Much modding potential there too.
-
Actually, I'm surprised, I think it looks quite cool.
And that bridge looks a lot like the arrangement on a modern dano. Seems to work fine on a dano - I was expecting all sorts of grief in the adjusting department, but it does the job.
And Frank,, what's wrong with that rock band thingy?! Sounds like a good idea to me (given that some misguided fool wants/needs a rock band controller in the first place, obviously...)
-
I dunno, that Rock Band controller guitar is a proper guitar as well, and a functional midi controller. Not that bad a thing, and not a huge amount of cash for the added functionality.

i'm not sure you would need a new plate - cut up the old one i reckon
-
That's a good idea, if possible. It's certainly a nice cheapo to modify. Would love one in white or surfgreen, with parchment or cream p90's, BKP's of course.

i agree - if those midi features are what they say, its actually quite a cool product!!!

and this thing has a midi output, thats really fine actually. its £200 too. i'd say its a huge bargain
edit: this too http://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-much-gear-so-little-time/596361-squier-rock-band-3-guitar-midi-demo.html
by a proper guitar midi head
-
Other than the plastic fretboard I have no problem with that whatsoever. Music video games are popular so it's a no brainer they will market it that way in addition to mentioning midi capability for any serious person. I was watching that guy's hands in the vid that Gwem linked. Seems to track very well. As far as the open chords ringing out too much, I'm thinking any one of the available string dampeners would do the trick, including the old poofy girl's hair scrunchie you see around the necks of extended range guitars and during recording to help the guitar sound more cleanly played.

I don't mind that. I don't mind that at all actually
At least that would make the game fun!
-
OMG, I want that.
Forget about those Fender pawnshop thingies.
edit: it will have to be dirt cheap, though. You can get one of those Xavieres for $230.

I think you'll be disappointed then - looks like they'll be around £240 in the UK. That said I think the recent Squiers I've played are a lot better than the (granted only one) Xaviere I bought.
-
I've read they're in stores in the US.
Some have tried one. Seems to have a great neck, great sound but lousy bridge. Screws sticking out of the saddles.
Easliy changed though.
-
There's one in a store in....Belfast. I'm as shocked as you are. Got to play it today.
The bridge isn't too bad at all. It looks a bit chewing-gum-and-string, but it appears perfectly functional. You could certainly live with it till something a little more robust and functional replaced it. Nice weight, balance and neck, and the pickups are very definitely in the "not too bad" range. The stacked pots, though, are absolute muck. Impossible to turn down the outer dial without also turning down the inner one unless you used both hands.
-
So what's the neck shape like? A "Modern C" shape, or something a bit more vintage and chunky?
-
It's a definite 60's style Fender neck. It felt very similar to those on reissue-ish guitars I have owned, being a mite larger than the one on my much missed MIJ 60's reissue, but a little less chunky than my much less missed US Voodoostrat, but really not far from either.
-
Sounds good!
-
I didn't even notice the concentric pots.
I have plenty of spare parts lying around. Including bridge grub screws that aren't too long, some pots and some knobs.
Just make it single master volume and master tone.
Make it a Jazzmaster without the complexities.
-
I do liek the look of that and am now trying to think of reasons why I shouldn't get one. If GV get some in stock I may see if they reduce them in their sale - I think they will have one at the end of April.
