Title: Wah pedal selection
Post by: JacksonRR on April 08, 2011, 10:17:09 PM
I've been itching to get a wah pedal and it's been some time since I've had one. What are you guys finding to be the best unit under $100 either new or used? Modern metal kinda stuff, Michael Amott sounds in particular, if it helps. Thanks guys.

The CAE is more than 100 dollar, but worth to save for. Hunter placed is nice vid in the players section. Personally I'm happy for the moment with my Vox 847, which is a lot cheaper.

I have been through a few pedals now.

I've had a standard Dunlop, the Dunlop Slash one and the Morley George Lynch Dragon (first series). Currently I have the Dunlop Zakk Wylde and the Dunlop Dimebag CFH.
Incidentally I am a huge fan of Michael Amott as well! Of those pedals I always felt the Morley got the closest, because it was less "in your face" and had this rather mild wah sound that Michael uses all the time. I didn't like its "feel" too much though, which is why I sold it. All the Dunlops I've used have their strong points: the Slash was best for low gain and clean wah, the Zakk works great with downtuning and sounds very fat, the CFH has a volume boost, is very versatile and can sound much brighter than many other wahs.

Of those wahs I think only the Zakk comes at 100£ or less (at GAK).

So went searching for Michael's wah pedal. Can't find a site with which album or timeframe to associate with, but he's used the Vox V847, the Zakk Wylde Wah, Rocktron Black Cat Moan(did find that was on Doomsday Machine), and now he's using the rackmount Crybaby that costs $600....

I think I'm gonna try to get on with a Rocktron. Always loved that company though not all products. The Black Cat seems to be a neat device and $109 USD. Doomsday Machine held my favorite wah tones of his, but not my favorite songs so I think I'm in the right direction. Should have just looked it up sooner, lol. Thanks guys!
