Title: Warpg in a Pacifica = hard for pinch harmonics? *or doing it wrong*
Post by: Riffmagus on April 12, 2011, 10:13:17 PM
Evening All,

So, I have my Warpig HB and Sinner S / S in my Pacifica - loving the sheer response of the Warpig - but pinch harmonics seem to be rather hard to come by...

I do have the Warpig set quite close to the strings - it's not got any false overtones or phasing tones to suggest the magnets are too high - is there a sweet spot for this?

I do find the Sinner neck sounds a little muddy - but with large amounts of distortion that goes with single coil territory.

I must add - this is my first wiring job - and I still having ground hum issues - checked the wiring twice and no joy. Going from the H/S/S wiring diagram on here - will put a post in the tech section for help.

In short, I love the response, agression and tone of the 'Pig - but how can I get those pinch harmonics out more? Does the middle single coil have any effect also when the HB is in use?

Cheers,

-Riff

Hi,

When you say you find pinch harmonics difficult with the Warpig, what are you comparing it to? Are pinch harmonics easier with the neck pickup on the same guitar or easier with a different guitar?

As regards the potential ground hum issue: the only thing you can do there is check and recheck with a digital volt meter that everything is wired correctly. Be also aware that positions #1 (neck only) and #3 (middle only) will hum more because there is no humcancelling effect. If you got a strong hum in positions #2 (neck + middle) and #5 (bridge humbucker only) but almost no hum with a different guitar, then the problem is with the guitar wiring. If you got a strong hum with a different humbucker equipped guitar as well you need to check the rest of the signal chain (cable, effects, amp, house wiring).

Good luck
Stephan

try testing different pickup heights. a single screw turn can do wonders!

Harmonics are sorted!

The magnet from the neck Sinner must have been too high and pulling on the strings a little. Now I have dropped the middle and neck pu's level with the guard, and raised the Warpig to 3mm on the treble side - the pinch's are happening all over the place - short and high pitched near the bridge or longer and smoother near the neck - luvverly!!

Once I'm 100% happy with the bridge pu height I shall adjust the others to match the volume and ensure then same does not happen again.

Now, just to sort out that ground hum.....
