Title: Miracle Man or Cold Sweat - harmonics in mahogany
Post by: 1reeper on April 14, 2011, 01:54:24 AM
I got a mahogany Ibby S, and I can't get harmonics out of it at all.  Only thing that's worked is a Qtuner.  So, I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem as me.

I'm looking at either the Miracle Man and the Cold Sweat bridges.  Coincidently, I have the neck models for both (getting the CS neck soon) but only have enough cash for one more bridge.

Any suggestions?

And before you ask, no, it's not my amp.  My frankenstrat squeals like a cat and it's a POS.  I've tried different amps and nothing works, not even Guitar Rig.

Cheers.

the miracle man will bring pinches out in abundance.

The cs almost equally as well.

I imagine you would be fine with either

What a coincidence - I have tested both MM and CS bridge in a guitar with a thick mahogany body, maple top, mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, 25.5 scale and tune-o-matic + stoptail bridge. Both sounded excellent in that guitar. Both are powerful - the outputs feel very similar. Both have tight bass and support artificial harmonics well - I really could not pick a favorite here. The main difference is that the CS is brighter, yet it is not piercing. I believe it will stay in that guitar because it made the guitar sound more specific than the MM did.

I would make the decision somewhat based on the neck pickup you are going to use. If it is the CS neck you can go with either CS bridge or MM bridge. With the MM neck I would rather opt for the MM bridge but I have not yet played an MM neck.

Cheers Stephan

i think you'll have no problem with both bridges... i can't imagine how a MM's going to sound in an Ibz S, but judging from my ceramic nailbomb i bet a CS will be a nice choice. very bright, but you'll love the way it will tame the S' midrange

That is exactly what it did in my guitar which is also quite midrange heavy.

the cold sweat pinch harmonics sound sharper and more scooped (think of Pantera's The Great Southern Trendkill ending/solo riff or Cemetery Gates)
the miracle man pinch harmonics sound bigger and more modern (No More Tears!)
both work great, but in different flavours

huh, I just, on a whim, put my MM neck into the bridge and my ceramic WP into the neck, and, wow, it actually sounds good.  I might just keep it like this and not get another BKP for now...

not a chance.

Prolly a CS set then.
