Random topic, sorry to bother but... Does anybody have an engl e530 because it sounds amazing on some clips and i have some questions. I'm looking to use this through my m-audio AV40 POWERED studio monitors. Guitar>Engl e530>studio monitors. Will this work just for practice or do i need a power amp(I need enough volume to fill the room but not too loud). If I use the built in power amp will cables to the studio monitors make a difference? I've heard that stereo(to the studio monitors)is a lot better than mono. Will the engl go into reaper recording software like my pod x3 or not. No one in the engl unofficial forum would help.
Thanks for everything.

Another contender:Blackstar HT-5 Head. Heard it on feared se and its incredible, too bad it cant connect to my studio monitors. But please help with my ENGL questions.
Thanks.

You will need either a power amp and cab or a pair of VERY powerful powered monitors.
I used to use an ENGL preamp with a Marshall EL34 100/100.
-
You need to line the 530 into an interfaces line in. Then use impulses in your daw to make it not sound horrific (as all preamps do without a power amp and speakers, or impulses to simulate them) and youre set.
You dont need a power amp to hear it through your monitors, it wont do you any good. You'll either then need a cab, mic/s and and interface or a powersoak line out designed to take the output of a power amp and scale it down to line level while putting a load on the power section...and and interface.
You need an interface
You cant run it right into your monitors so far as I'm aware.

^ What he said, but only for RECORDING, not for PRACTICE.

...I read 'practice' as the solitary kind, not the band kind...yeah, band you need a power amp and a cab, of course.
-
Thanks again.BTW the ENGL E530 has a 1,5 watt power amp. I'm also leening towards a tube head such as the blackstar ht-5 or the jet city 20H with a cab with celestion speakers(hopefully V30s). But... If I get one, i will probably never use my monitors again and they cost so much in spain.

I had the E530 and an E580.
If you use it with a head, you have to feed the LINE OUT from the ENGL into the EFFECTS RETURN of your head. You cannot feed the speaker out into a head!!!
Your head MUST have an effects loop to use it this way.
The SS amp output is okay for solitary practice, but it sounds quite bad. As a preamp, the E530 is great.

Ah no sorry, i didn't make that clear. I am EITHER getting the engl e530 or an amp head such as blackstar ht-5, valveking 100, 6505,...
-
AH. ENGL/power amp will sound much better than the others you mentioned. For solo practice, the SS amp out will work, but it's not ideal.

Tried out the engl and it sounded worse than a roland cube, so much fiiizzz and very harsh. The pod hd500 sounded 10x better and the blackstar I have yet to try.
-
Tomoz I will probably get something. I've narrowed it down to three: pod hd500(most likely), blackstar HT studio 20 and blackstar ht-5.

I find that hard to believe. Something must have been wrong with the equipment/setup.

It was running through an all-tube power amp and a marshall cab¿?¿?¿?¿?¿?¿?¿?¿?¿?¿?¿?¿¿?¿?¿

That doesn't mean anything.

nothing wrong with a roland cube, brilliant practice amp ( the 40 watter) for the price of a good pedal.
