Whoa, check out a 5-star review of some Aftermaths shown in 'Bare Knuckle's new Tygyr finish'.
Very nice; now Iwonder if Mayones will do a Regius in orange and black fur...
-
Yep, an excellent review too!

I agree with the review entirely especially the value for money bit.
i feel the gradual price hikes were unneccesary but still the pickups are worth it IF you get the right one for your guitar first time

How do you figure that?
-
I don't mean it offensively.
i just think they've gone up a lot whilst a lot of other pickup manufacturers have stayed the same or gotten lower.
I do think that BKP's are still worth it but its a lot more of a gamble now that it used to be.

I get you, but I think "unnecessary" was perhaps the wrong choice of adjective. I assure you Tim does everything he can to keep the prices as minimal as they can be while still being economically viable. He's absorbed some large increases in cost over the years without passing any of it on to the consumer. The VAT increase will be the cause of the recent step-up, which is 100% understandable if regrettable.

Thats what i presume and yeah reading back it was poor word choice.
I presumed it could either be the VAT or maybe BKP had expanded somewhat and taken more staff on

i don't think BKP's are overpriced. in canada a set of SD or Dimarzio can run around just 50-60 bucks under a set of BKP. of course i only compared 7 and 8 string sets to bkp but their regular 6 string buckers are quite nicely priced for what you get, and the incomparable expertise tim and co have.
of course you have to take into account the currency conversion as these days the pound is 1.6 times the CAD so nowadays SD and DMZ are a good value since we have par currency with the states,
still, remove VAT, hope for no taxes and duty (my last 2 orders were duty free) and take into account the custom value of BKP and their reliability and tone.... it still feels like a pretty good deal
i wonder if you can get a burnt chrome tygyr? that would look badass
-
the edges resemble recent battleworns - but a lot more predictable.
I had battle worn nickel pickups ages ago and i remember tim saying he did not think it was a technique that would look as good without the black covers. i dont htink they did the battleworn grooves as deep then, but i think they have started doing the battleworn thing a bit deeper than they used to and i suspect this new finish was a happy accident from that, with some extra something to make the grooves look darker
fairly sure they could do the burnt chrome look, since it looks to be nickel plating

looks great! :D :D :D

Tits! I really dig this finish. Couldn't decide on Black Battle worn or Distressed Camo in one of my older guitars; could go either way, but f*ck it! TYGYR it is! Tasteful, contrasting, and aggressive.
