Title: Vintage Trouble on Jools Holland

Did anyone see them on Jools Holland the other night, absolutely stonking performance. Going to go get their album I thought it was that good. At least to see proper musicians instead of the complete muppets that end up on X-facto & the ilk

Yeah, that was pretty damn good.

Yep, I really enjoyed them. I switched over to it just in time to see them. A fine rocking combo, excellent playing and stage presence, and it looked like they were enjoying delivering a "this is how you play music, and you know it, you numpties" performance

I enjoyed k d lang and her band as well. I loved how she managed to get out of "I can't remember the first frigging line to one of my most famous songs!!!". There was a momentary look of terror on her face, and then she got it out of nowhere. Been there, done it, not on national tv though! It's damn scary when all the audience knows the words and you don't . If that hadn't happened, I probably would have switched off and gone to bed, but I stayed on and was well impressed with how they played it.

I missed it when it was on the TV so got it on the iPlayer. Great stuff, such a good LP tone. Coincidentally I had read an interview with the guitar player earlier in the week and it was enough to interest me to give it a listen. I like the fact that he has also sanded the finish off of the back of his 59RI neck!

It's repeated on Saturday morning (1am I think). Will definitely be recording it and watching in better resolution.

Good stuff.

The first song reminds me abit of pre-funk James Brown.

Sounds good, crowd pleasing mix of blues/soul/'60s rock, good singer, excellent guitar work... is their CD (The Bomb Shelter Sessions) available in the UK or download only?

I don't think it is. I took a look earlier and it was download only. A little annoyance as I like to have a physical product when I buy something. Yes, I'm a luddite.

they're a tight band, but I think it's the kinda thing I'd go mental for in a live setting rather than as a CD to listen to at home.

Just bought it on i-tunes.
Blues rock with a soul singer as frontman.
Some good vintage guitar tones and the other half likes it. I'll take her with me to see them when they play local

Brian May was this weekend in Flushing (Holland, 20 km from where I live), where he recieved the Eddy Cristiani Award for his commitment to guitarplaying and the inspirations he was for others. He played a bit too.

Only just noticed this thread, but I liked the performance on Jools Holland - a lot more rockin' than I was expecting from reading the interview in Guitarist.

Is the rest of the album similar, or does it lean more to the soul/R&B side?

More soul /R&B but still classy

Can't see the link, but presumably it's Trouble?  Absolutely awesome band, "Manic Frustration" is one of my all-time favourite albums.  They've got the Sabbath thing for sure, but also some really great melodic songs (not so much on the first few albums).

I've got that blood ceremony record. it's pretty good, it's actually my girlfriends and she digs it from a folk and psych aspect which I guess shes into more than metal. kind of heavier than I expected it was going to be. I liked Graveyard.

Well I'm trying to work out if I have ever heard a singer as good as that before.
What a voice!
More my wife's cup of tea overall, but they are a great band and hung out drinking with people after the show.
The guitarist was playing 2 small lazy j combos through a decent pedal board and stuck to his Les Paul all night.
He sounded great. The strattiest sounding Gibson I have heard

Sounds like you had a great time. He does have a great voice indeed. I did think he was a bit of a tw@t on Rockstar INXS though (not sure if any others on here watched that) and must admit that I didn't give him much a of a chance when I heard he was in Vintage Trouble. I think I may have been wrong.

I think the guitarist plays a VOS. Very nice sounding. He has also sanded the finish off the back of the neck - not sure I would do that on such an expensive guitar!

He's changed the bridge pickup as well.
The singer wasn't a tw@t at all.
We bumped in to him in York before the show and he was a really chatty guy.
I think he just needs to put a lot of front on for when he performs. Understandable considering the energy he puts in to it

What's he changed it too?

Sounds like the singer is a nice guy then. Perhaps he was under a bit of pressure on Rockstar and thought he had to put a bit of an act on to get himself noticed - he did refer a few times to him being black and that it works against him as people wouldn't vote for him because of that. Glad that not winning the show has worked out much better for him.

Matt77, considered dropping into the York show last night..might have seen you had I been bothered to get up off my arse!
If you make friends with the band on FB Nalle (the guitarist) is quite a cool guy and willing to talk about gear

I could have given you a lift.
I might ask him which bridge pickup it is. He didn't use the rhythm pickup once

He was in Guitarist a month or so ago and he said what he swapped the pickup for.  I'll try and dig it out...

The pickup is a hand made custom wound job from a friend in Japan.  No brand is mentioned...

i saw them live at hard rock calling and they were the first band on of the day and blew every other band off the stage. They were so tight and they're such a refreshing band. The question is will the "pop culture' allow them to really take off.

right on wednesday I went to see the band at Leeds c--kpit, as I'd been talking with the guys on facebook they posted that they needed someone to help film the band, so I said I'd help if they needed it. Ended up filming the band from the back of the stage and hanging out with them before & after the gig & I can honestly say that they are some of the most talented musicians out there and putting on a show...WOW!

Truely nice people and the show itself was amazing, if you get a chance to go see them, then do you won't be disappointed!
