Christ on a bike. That is actually quite pathetic. It's all just resistors and capacitors and transformers and chokes and bits of wire, no amp on earth is worth that much money even if Jimi Hendrix pissed on it.

In the world of super high end amps, I would take a Trainwreck any day over the Dumbles; they give me a blinding headache.

When he did, it would take a lot of cleaningpolish to remove the stains that sucked in for years. But to the thread: this is ridiculous.

I was watching a video of Doug Doppler playing one recently and I'm sure I heard 40K.
pretty good demo video of a Dumble. I never knew what they could really do before I watched this. I wouldnt pay 85K for one though...

Occasionally a Dumble comes up in the dealer ads in Vintage Guitar magazine and $40000 seems to be going rate. Which is still too much money for an albeit very nice amp. I think the eBay lister is getting delusions of grandeur.

yeah the first one is one of 4 parts. I never really had a good idea of what those things could sound like before watching that. I was surprised by the clip where the guy pulls out a 7 string Ibanez and starts getting heavy with it.

I've never been that impressed with them but I would like to try one.
I do wonder if they would be so popular If they were a general production amp, the lack of availability and unnatainability seem to have pushed the prices up like artwork. Same in the pedal word with the Klon.
What are the clones like, the ceriatones and the like?

I guess similar. I dunno. Fuchs and Two Rock make a clone too, still expensive. The Ceriatone might be the cheapest. I was quite impressed by those clips and how much ground it seemed to cover, but usually when things cover 'lots of ground' they don't do everything that well.

Here's what really annoys me here ...
- If you opened that amp up and dismantled it into its component parts you'd probably find a maximum of about 50 parts
- The total cost of those parts would be nearer $500 than $85,000
- Despite all the claims made by manufacturers there hasn't been a single "revolutionary development" in valve amp circuits since the 1940s
In short, that amp is nothing special. It's a huge marketing ploy designed to rip off idiots who have more money than sense.

Well, from the clips it seems to be a pretty good sounding amp - but 40K is indeed just plain ridiculous (let's not even talk about 85k). As you say, even peerless craftmanship and top-notch components all the way wouldn't justify such an insane price tag.

Oh I really like the second clip but I'd seen that before. :) He reminds me of a middle aged Eric Cartman who's gone slightly MOR gothic.

i didn't see it til I saw those other Dumble clips. It amused me when I read the comments and the guy says he got banned from TGP for making the vid.
I think the Dumbles and Trainwrecks are almost like buying art I guess, or maybe its about investing in rare and desirable items. Supply and demand drives up the price. Same with a lot of things. Maybe early Fenders are the same, lino fret markers, made with unskilled mexican labour (I think I'm correct saying that although its probably a generalisation), they don't all sound good but they still cost a lot of money, right?

Well the money side is mad, but I went to a Robben Ford (plus Larry Carlton) and his Dumble sounded divine all night.
