Given the chart below, and based on you experience, how would you compare the EQ of a Seymour Duncan JB to the Rebel Yell and the Holy Diver?
Forget about the settings on the SD website: how would you rank the Bass, Mid and Treble of the JB, when compared with the other two?

these charts can't be compared even between BKP's
the diver is noticeably more bass heavy than the rebel yell
rebel yell = brightest, clearest, tightest, least hot
diver = darkest (but still bright), most thick and punchy, less upper mid spike
JB = hotter and more compressed than both, muds up in the low end and mids, thinner and brighter than the holy diver

Is it brighter than the Rebel Yell?

LOL he just said the RY is the brightest.

You're right: didn't seen that.
Thank you so much, you guys.

I've got a Rebel Yell in one of my 7's and a JB in another and they couldn't sound further apart tonally.
the Rebel Yell is much tighter and has a lot more of an upper mid emphasis than the JB does.
I really like the JB , I'm hoping the Holydiver I'm waiting for is " a better verision of a JB".
the JB sounds closer believe it or not to a the MiracleMan I have in my 7620 than it does to the Rebel yell.
I 've seen a lot of people say the JB "muds" up but thru my Mark IV and 5150 II it's plenty tight.
It may not be a good match thru a Recto though or any other "looser" amp.

I have RYs in a Firebird Studio and a JB in an old SG. They don't sound alike at all. I like the JB but I prefer the RY. It isn't as high output as the JB but takes gain a lot better. It still sounds clear and focussed way past the stage at which the JB would become undefined and blurry. Much tighter low end. Just all round a better pickup.

Hahaha, now I'm back to thinking about the Holy Diver. I've had guitars with a JB where it wasn't hot nearly ENOUGH. Wish I had two identical guitars, each one with different pups.

Don't we all?

The Rebel Yell sounded awesome on that clip, but they do seem to really lack in bass and low mid frequencies.

I'm waiting on a Holydiver to replace the JB in my rico 7.
I found the Jb to have much more of a lower mid Emphasis than the Rebel yell does.
If the Holydiver is a thicker less bright sounding version of the JB I will be in tone heaven

I just realized that all the guitars I have HATED with JB's in them were either basswood or alder. My friend has the JB/59 combo in his mahogany strat and it sounds great through his Quick Rod... Maaaaaybe the HD is what I am after... Hmmm...

I think these show the differences very well. Thanks for posting, Eric.
Cheers Stephan

I had a JB in my Ibanez and I swapped it out for a Holy Diver set because the JB was too thin sounding and lacked sustain and clarity under gain. By comparison, the HD has a much thicker, saturated bottom end which is really nice for huge rhythm sounds \m/ And as for the neck pickup, the tone is really open with lots of fluidity and an earthy, vocal-like lead tone. The perfect pickups if you like the mids of a JB but want a more ballsy sound :)

Just pulled the JB from my Charvel for a Holy Diver.
Diver far less hot, Diver less bass, Diver clearer tone.
Having not liked the JB in the Les Paul Standard i have, i think it was ok in the Charvel at crunch amp settings, the hot output was great for leads.
-
it feels a little less bassy cause it needs to be set a lot closer to strings than the JB, due to its lower output
-
The newer Charvels don't have any way to adjust height, they are direct mounted and have nothing underneath to push the pickup up. I am about 4mm from the strings.

U can shim the pickup with foam or a bit of wood.

Sticky foam......that's were it's at. 8)
