Well after all the ho-hah La Cabronitas & especially Daves after he didn't sell it to me (bad man ;) ) I had a word with a guy a friend put me in touch with John @ JXG guitars (http://"http://www.jxgguitars.com/") about putting something together, finishing it for me etc, he agreed, did me a sweet deal & asked if I had the parts...I did. A chambered Maple & Zebrano body & an allparts neck. I took it up to Newcastle for him, spent half a day shooting the breeze with John & having a bloodly good laugh we came down to the specs being a single TV Jones Classic + (which I'm fitting) as well as finishing the body as a translucent black top to show the flame, leaving the edge of the maple unpainted to give it a bound look & just putting on a clear coat on the back to show the Zebrano grain & bring it out more, hes doing the front with an alternative to Nitro for me as well. Well I got the 1st pics today of the guitar after it's been drilled....Damn I can't wait to get hold of this thing!
-
Please, DON'T top route it!! PLEASE!
It's going to look sweet
-
Good god no! It's just going to be as per the routing is now :)
-
This is a project I shall follow with grat interest. Just out of curiosity, what made you choose the TV Jones Classic over something like the Powertron?
-
Listened to the powertron, classic & classic+ numerous times, and although I did like the powertron very much, I thought that the classic+ give me the sound I could use for more of the sort of thing that I play where as the powertron I would have only been able to use on a few songs. The classic+ seemed to be able to do everything from rockabilly to hard rock
-
This'll be good! Look forward to seeing the finished result.
-
Nice piece!
-
Should be a cracker! I like the spec, very tasty 8)
If you play some clean stuff occasionally, the Classic+ will be a real all-rounder. I think that's what I had in mine and it's very versatile.
-
Yeah I like my clean sound....should be nice through my bassman
-
Cut away the top horn (above the neck) and don't put that awful lame tele hardware on it, and change the headstock, and it might be okay. :)
-
Yay Roo's back! :D
Must've been the spoor of a Tele that did it.
-
I've not really been away Philly, just not been particularly active in posting :) But seriously, why would anyone a) buy or b) build a tele? Just makes NO sense. :/
-
Roo you dependable thing you
-
with roo on the shape and dave with the classic + i have the classics in my guild sounds great
-
Lookin good that Horse
-
Start of the laquers has gone on...OHHHHHH YEAH!
-
Looking good :D
And I'm the same as you Roo - I'm watching regularly, but don't seem to be able to get the time or energy to post much in the way of replies unless a subject really moves me (in this case it's the most recent pics look damn cute, and a chance to say "Hi Roo! you ole bar steward..."). Hell, by theory, I should even have posted a NBD thread over the weekend, but I was too busy polishing and playing it!
Anyway, HH, the lil b1tches haven't really grabbed me, nor have flame tops on teles. But there's something very nice about those shots of the body... I can see exactly why you're going "OH YEAH!" - looking forward to seeing the finished item.

That's the great thing about this hobby - there's so much variety and options out there, that you can never get bored!

Something I just won't try - like an AxeFX or reverse Flying V.....
-
Now you've said that I give it a year!
-
That is really nice blue!
-
That's looking good, man. Keep the pics coming!
-
Just for comparison (which is none at the moment), this is the kinda thing I'm going for

So you are caving in and taking Roo's advice on the "structural changes" then? :o
Surely not...
And a big +1 to this:
Now you've said that I give it a year!
 (although, I have to admit, I do NOT see Dave with a reverse V )
-
Well the 1st of the dark laquers have gone on! At the moment it's reminding me more of the PRS black bursts
-
It's looking awesome!! This JP LP is one of that I most like!
Is the neck all maple? This would look THE sh!t with a ebony board and the headstock matching the body :)
-
That's gonna be a nice deluxe tele.
-
Every day I see the updates to this thread, I lose another piece of my soul. :(

You can't say it's not coming along very nicely, though. Just be glad he hasn't decided "The Roo" should be it's name when it's done. :P
-
apparently John is putting the final coat on today so more pictures later. I'm getting super excited now
-
Turns out I was wrong about the final coat :( The latest pic is 2 coats of clear in & 6 more to go, then at least 2 weeks drying time before final buffing & polishing. The decal for the headstock should arrive by monday as well
-
:D
-
good choice on the colour

Thanks Wez, from you that's a real compliment :)
-
Nice project, it's looking good already.
-
Looks just about there now!
-
That looks great. For some reason I'd got it into my head that you were going to have a maple board but the rosewood(?) board looks fantastic. Very classy indeed.
-
Looking forward to seeing this finished and in all its glory.
-
:D
-
Classy.
-
The headstock has been finished & decal applied...earvana nut and we're just about ready for me to pick. Then I've got to save up for the electronics!
-
That looks so sweet. It's always a pleasure to witness a nice guitar taking shape.
-
Well yesterday was interesting day for me & the guitar. I got a call saying it's ready for me to pickup, so myself & Marc (sgmypod) took a leisurely train journey upto New'astle & went to see John @ JXG guitars. The guitar was finished ready....& it gave me a boner! Johns finish is stunning, the neck has been set in like a les paul & screwed in as well, the flame top in the pictures doesn't do the image justice, it glints & fades & roars when it's turned in the light. The Zebrano back looks gorgeous & just gives an extra different look to the guitar. John just coated the top for me & left the edge of the maple as almost a faux binding giving it quite an un-usual look I think, more of a 70's deluxe kinda vibe. The guitar is just waiting for my TV Jones classic plus to arrive now so I can fit it & wire it all up properly....thinking of dropping in a .033 paper in oil on it to see what it sounds with the TV jones.
Playing it acoustically, the rings just rings out very true, sounding like a beefed up strat, the zebrano brings out the mid range quite a bit to my ears & I think with the classic plus in it's going to growl through my MJW's.
Anyway, pics below to prove that it exists!
P.S. Don't go to the guitat Guitar in Newcastle if your looking for 1 new guitar, you'll end up with several!
-
That looks so classy.
-
that looks good.
Would be interested in hearing the difference between that and mine
