basically ive got a jackson ke3 with seymour duncans (jb and jazz) and the pickups dont have enough output, so when i bought an esp ec200qm with emg hz's i thought that these pickups would have good clarity with also a good low end, however they aren't cutting it, the body is made of agathis and is a neck thru.
as stated in the title i play djent/deathcore/melodeath (melodic death metal) and i need a set of pickups which can handle dropped tunings (possibly down to drop a occasionally), i also need the neck pickup to handle sweeping
so i got recommended the nailbomb set, is this the best choice or am i better off looking at dimarzios? i also need good pinch harmonics,
i play through a laney lc50 and a bugera 6260,
also is there a major difference open and closed
all help is much appreciated

Well, you posted this at the BareKnuckle forum, therefore everyone here is going to recommend BareKnuckles... for the kind of stuff you mentioned the AfterMath normally gets recommended around here.
No offense, but that is a really cr@ppy guitar wood. I would invenst in a better guitar before I would drop the money on pick-ups. It will be a good investment, but it may not help you achieve your goal in that guitar as much as it would a better guitar. If you scrouge forums you can find great guitars for like $500. I sold a killer Splawn parts guitar with EMG 81/85 to someone online for $500 recently, for example.

The thing with guitar wood is that its very subjective, what one person likes the next person, I find agathis sounds great for high gain, so luckily I can use my ke3 which is mahogany with SD jazz to record cleans whenever I need to,
So is aftermath more suited for the style I'm after? Is there any drawbacks with the aftermath?
-
Isn't the Ke3 alder?
I would be more inclined to upgrade the KE3 personally rather than the EC.
But yes the aftermath will do what you need

Yes it should be Alder.
Like Shredhead I would be a bit worried that due to the limited tonality of the guitar you wouldn't get the full benefit of a pickup change. The EMG HZ go well with that guitar, because they impact their tonality a lot. I'd recommend saving money, getting a better guitar and then some Bareknuckles.

yeah sorry the ke3 is alder, it was like 3am when i posted last night and i got it confused with my ibanez s320,
im going to buy the aftermath bridge and see what it sounds like in the esp, if it doesnt sound good then i can just put the stock emg back in and use the aftermath in something else
i really appreciate the help
also is that your setup with the aftermath sound slips?
-
No no, those are the official aftermath clips.
The first is by misha mansoor of periphery
and the second is by our very own Nolly
-
ah right, they do sound awesome
is there any benefits of open/closed pickups?
-
nope its just visual preference.
usually covered pickups roll off the highs but Tim compensates on the wind so this doesnt happen
