Hi, I am heavily influenced by Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Paul Gilbert, Jimmy Page, SRV, Clapton, Pat Methaney, John Scofield, Malmsteen, Satch, Zakk Wylde, Steve Morse, Nuno, Warren Haynes and Tommy Emmanuel.
I am going crazy in trying to come up with a combination which would allow me to cover these styles
What combination of single coils (or HSS) do you suggest for alder body (stratish) guitar. I was thinking about the following (Bridge-Middle-Neck):
1. Triology-IrishTours-IrishTours
2. Triology-Apache-Apache
3. Sinner-IrishTours-IrishTours
4. Sinner-Apache-Apache
5. The above combinations with either a black dog or Miracle man at the bridge.
Thanks in advance

The black dog and MM are quite different...
How would you weight each of those players in importance in your style?
At the moment I would say MM bridge to nail Zakk et all, Irish tours should see you pretty well through the rest, especially the SRV, hendrix and beck.
Have you considered the slow hand as well?
Or maybe: MM/trilogy/IT to get a powerfull single in the middle to help you out with malmsteeny playing?

thanks for the response MDV,
I was thinking that If I can get that paul gilbert tone out of the bridge then I can handle malsteen too (aslmost, maybe with a coil tap). Which BKP do you think can better a DiMarzio PAF pro (thats whats there in paul's guitars) ?
Ok attachng weights to these guys:
1. Hendrix
2. Paul Gilbert
3. Beck
4. Page/Clapton/John Scofield
5. I am lost already :?

Paf pro bridge is a medium/highish output A5....a bit middy, quite trebly, not shy on the bass, but not very much. Its all about clarity and articulation. In those terms I doubt you could choose a BKP that would be worse!
Cold sweat maybe? its ceramic, but by all accounts (I havent tried this one and I dotn really trust soundclips) its quite bright and articulate, not overboard on the power.
The mule has less output but a very clear open tone, you could get on very well with that.
Or perhaps the (as yet unreleased) rebel yell? So far I think only steve stevens, the guys at BKP, philking and twighlight oddesy (two guys on these boards) have heard it! Better wait for them to chip in....

^just a slight point on the paf pro, mark- i'd say it's medium output at most. Definitely not hot, at least in the bridge. Quite a bit lower than the tone zone, IMO.
I agree with your suggestions, though (especially the MM/trilogy/irish tours one, that might be quite nice, although the in-between tones might be all off-balance...!)

The Paf Pro is around 8k in output.I replaced one on ny strat with a BK Mule. The Mule is very versatile, does great blues rock tones and can really rip when driven. And it does'nt have that half-c--ked wah tone that the Paf Pro has.
-
My mistake on the paf pro folks! Much apologies. I thought 8k was the neck!
8ish k, bright and clear says mule to me, by reputation at least. Or, indeed black dog judging by the specs.
The MM is an option, I think only if you feel you need some real power on tap. If your amps quite gainy then a mule should work great for you.
I get some fair metal from an 8k pickup and high/highish gain amps.

^i think the DM's are $%*£-ed up, they must use vastly different wire gauges, for example the Tone Zone is like 17K, and is much less hot than a duncan JB at 16K (and i think my warthog, at 12k!)...
but yeah, mark, if you want pa pro type sounds, you probably do want something like a mule...

For the Hendrix and Beck tones I would look at Mother's Milk pickups. For the others you'll want a humbucker of some sort.

Welcome!
My suggestion would be Mule bridge, Mother's Milk single coils for middle and neck...............this will nail all your core tones.

thanks a lot tim
